June 21, 20224 yr This is just a basic comparison between how we attack compare to City. I use both teams game vs Burnley as my reference. Build up Chelsea City This was how we build up compare to city, it was very similar (3 - 1 concept) . Burnley left 1 st against city so you would see walker step up again and again whereas Burnley left two st against us hence Chalobah needed to be more conservative. However one big difference, City pushed all 5/6 of their attacker very high Whereas we preferred to have more player behind the ball. Burnley preferred to pack the middle so the way both team attack is quite similar, move the ball to one side and switch it. Final 3rd However once it get to final 3rd it is different. City Cancelo received the ball on the wing and city had 5 players in the box. We on the other hand had only 3 player in the box vs 5 Burnley defender. These are just player positions. I haven't talked about players quality who imo more important. Canc- Greal- Gundo - Foden - KdB - Sterling Rodri 3 cb Vs Saul - Mount - Kai - Kante - Puli - James Jorgi 3cb Reece is imo the best rb in the league and puli is good but city has kdb and sterling on the right, the best player in pl + one of the best winger. On the left, mount is my favorite player and we have Saul. City has cancelo who dribble more like a winger than a fb with Jack Grealish as his support, one of the best playmaker in the league. In the middle, city ask foden to play like a st to pin Burnley cb so gundo who has very good movement in the box can shoot in the box. For us, Havertz scored two goals in this game but kai is not exactly a monster in the box and we all know penalty box is not really kante best area. These are just attackers and I haven't talked about who are feeding those attackers. Conclusion I think it is obvious from just this simple one game analysis why city scored more goals than us last season. Having said that, we scored 4 and city only scored 2 in this game. June 21, 20224 yr Interesting analysis Bob, obviously a slow-work day. Next year I can see us over-taking them with Richarlison up front.
June 21, 20224 yr A lot of the reasons is the system. City have essentially 7 progressive players in their team which all contribute to the attack (hence why more players are in the box). We have 5.

Yup, I had some free time, I watched some of our game to see how we play and when you watch the game to understand the game not as a fan, it kinda change your opinion.

Yup it was quite clear we are simply more conservative to city. The most annoying part watching these two games was although we scored 4 goals and city scored 2 you can see the big difference on how we score. We needed Reece to beat 3 defenders or Pulisic made perfect cross with only one st in the box against 5 defender or low cross that went through defender. City goal on the other hand looked like it was made in a factory. It was well designed and they can do this over and over again. If I had a lot of time, I will probably do a more thorough analysis.
