When Chelsea’s new owners paid billions for the Premier League club, they also inherited accusations of a toxic culture inside its offices

Almost a dozen employees of the club’s marketing department said they had come to expect being berated by their boss in front of colleagues. Others said they had faced his wrath in more humiliating ways, ordered to stand up and leave staff meetings on a single man’s word.

The pressure took its toll. By last year, multiple Chelsea employees had vanished for weeks, or sometimes months, of medical leave. At least 10 staff members — from a department that employs about 50 people — had left the club altogether, one employee said. Then, in early January, a well-liked former staff member killed himself.

Wtf!

Sorry mod if posted in wrong place but this article needs to be seen

That's sad to read. No one should feel like that at work. Someone I know used to work at the club (in a different department) and I don't think his experience matches up with the above but said if ever Bruce Buck was around it made everyone feel like they were walking on eggshells.

I got to be honest, I am now in my mid 50's and have mostly worked for US multi-nations all my life and have always been talked to like I am 10 years old, or a piece of sh*t on someone's shoes. I would say this is typical corporate life. There is a lot of lip service given by companies about employee welfare, anti-bullying, etc. work life balance is the one that gets me every time, hilarious.   The company I work for is now pushing mindfulness our way    - its crap. Make the numbers, do more for less, no resource given or else  leave at the end of the day.

We even got tele programs about it, isn't The Apprentice just that ?  Mind you I only watched it once, and to be fair I would shout at that lot!  where do they get these people from ? 🙂

Don't see why a high profile, high value football club should be any different.

People have generally started to realise what a massive crock of sh*t this is and tend to find something where they’re not treated like absolute sh*te, me being one of them.

It’s becoming a bit of a trope now but there is never a normal day at Chelsea, so I’d imagine those handling the brands image, fan engagement etc have a tough job already, especially when you go higher than merely someone managing the social media handles. Imagine having to navigate the recent events in particular, even simple stuff like when we had the open training session, which ended up making headlines for all the wrong reasons due to Werner being shouted at, all comes into the marketing team.

Nope, we’ve just completed our massive expansion to three full time and one part time staff members
