August 13, 20241 yr European Cup First Round.Second Leg at Ibrox. Sept 1987. Rangers 2-0 Kiev. Rangers won 2-1 on aggregate. The night Graeme Souness narrowed the Ibrox pitch touch lines, to prevent Kiev using their pace out wide. And following a 1-0 defeat in the first leg in Ukraine, Souness tricked his rivals by NARROWING the pitch. During their customary training session on the eve of the match, Souness spotted the amount of balls being sprayed out wide and wanted to contain the threat of the legendary Oleg Blokhin. Ally McCoist, who scored along with Mark Falco in the famous 2-0 win at Ibrox that sealed an aggregate win, said of the sneaky move: "The night before the game Graeme brought the pitch in five metres either side. Made the pitch really narrow so our full-backs could get a kick at Blokhin. They were absolutely raging… I can remember (the manager’s) interview after the game, he was absolutely livid. Genius from Souness." Edited August 13, 20241 yr by erskblue

Two of those were scoring the winning goal for Rangers in the 1973 Scottish Cup Final and the tackle of Mick Channon at Hampden Park in 1976 when Scotland played England.

Rangers played some of their best football of the season in that first half. They were 2-0 up (going on 5-0). Dundee United came back and won it 3-2.Former Ranger Ian Redford scoring the winner very late on. Davie Cooper was outstanding in 1986-87.
August 18, 20241 yr Another two pictures of Alfie Conn scoring in the 1973 Scottish Cup Final against Celtic. Just noticed a Rangers fan in the stand already celebrating! Just how packed is that Hampden terracing. Alfie Conn in action against Celtic. Looks like 1973/74 as Rangers are wearing the black and red socks. Edited August 18, 20241 yr by erskblue
