Rangers Vintage

Featured Replies

A place for posting photos, videos, stories, comments etc about Rangers players, teams and games- and also photos of Ibrox and the surrounding areas - in days gone by. This picture has already been posted before but shows a player who played for both Chelsea and Rangers. No prizes for naming him.

May be an image of 3 people, people playing football, people playing American football and text

@erskblue @Scott @carrickblue and others. Enjoy posting and looking at stuff about Scotland's finest.  As I've mentioned before I would hate to see Chelsea play Rangers in a competitive match. Would be a case of divided loyalties.

Rangers playing  at Ibrox Park in 1920. The pavilion and grandstand that can be seen on the right of the pitch, were replaced by the new (and current) Main Stand  in 1928. The 'Bovril Stand' (North Stand) can be seen on the left. Ibrox would remain a bowl shaped Stadium until the summer of 1978.

Top picture is late June 1978 and the very early stages of the demolition of the Copland Road Terracing.

Bottom picture. May 1979. The new Copland Road Stand is nearly completed.

These two pictures were taken from very nearly the same spot.

Seconded. I think they are currently being archived on The Rangers Archive website. That will be a gold mine of amazing Rangers historical information.

Another picture from Gullane. Can't imagine managers nowadays being allowed to kick a player even though it was probably just a gentle touch. Wallace was one of those old school managers. Did his National Service with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers and spent some time in the jungle in Malaysia. One of the finest regiments in the British Army and Malaysia/Malaya was a tough training ground. I think the Royal Marines and Gurkhas still train there.
