This is an idea I have been banging on about for ages - I hope it works and it isn't another one of those lame lip service things that just fades away

It is a must. All games are videoed now so technology is not an issue. It would have the biggest and most positive effect on our game since the no pass back rule was introduced. In fact isn't there a way we can do an online petition to the F.A. or the Premiership? Any ideas about how to go about this, anyone?

Great idea - I expect the thought they could be caught would be enough for some players to stay on their feet.

It is only goingto work if the punichments are harsh enough.

When I first said I would like to see something like this in place (must have ben a year or so ago) I had a scheme whereby first offence was a 3 match ban, 2nd 6 matches and 3rd 9 matches and each offence after that be 9 matches with the slate wiped clean at the start of eash season.

One game bans will not deter anyone.

Now people who have never played the game have their opinion, but others who have may share my opinion.

There are times, when playing football, you know from your position, or the positions of your opponent, that when you receive the ball you are going to get clattered with the 1st touch. Now if, as some commentators say, it was just 'experience drawing the foul' then there is a place in the game for this! You can see when it's coming, and know as player when to prevent a broken leg,so you nudge the ball, wait for the challenge, but leave the ground so they only clip you, then a foul is and should be given, perhaps a card. To me as a fan and a player, this is not diving, just drawing the foul from and inexperienced defender, Makalele does it quite a bit when the oppositin are frustrated, but its usually quick or offensive players!

Now here is where it gets dodgey, if you anticipate the foul or contact but they miss you, then technically it's a dive, weither or not you claimed for a foul, and were preventing your own broken leg.

Some of us know the difference between a diver/coward and a player drawing a foul, I just hope their panel does aswell.

Saying that, players who roll around and dive like they're about to hit water should have tougher penalties, but unfortunately it's part of the game, some do it more than others, but it's also highlighted in other cases more than others. Rooney and Ronaldo do it on a regular basis, but when done by Didi or Robben it's highlighted even further.

When a player has a reputation of a diver, genuine fouls are not given against them due to their over-reaction, mainly Chelsea players as a biased fan.

It is time to cut it out, lets just hope they get it right otherwise our game could be sanitised beyond recognition.

Judging your Avtar - Gerrard would be out for at least a game IMHO.

The thing is a panel would probably say he isn't diving, down to reputation (did he get a penalty for that one, or was it a different game without contact which proves my point?) but if it was Robben/Drogba would the same apply?

Does the ban differ if he wins an 'unsporting' 3-point match-winning penalty in the last minute or a free-kick winning dive in the 1st?

I think most people who have played the game can recognise those instances in the vast majority of occasions (and a lot of people who haven't can as well) - OK I acknowledge the panel may get ones like that wrong ona few occasions however that is a price well worth paying to punish the vast majority of genuine dives.

I wonder what will they do if a player dives to win a penalty which is scored and is a deciding factor in the result.

I would think they would do nothing about it Paulo - I don't think you can have a situation where you start to reverse decisions retrospectively.

What is happening up here is that the player will be issued a retrospective yellow card if video replays find them guilty. If they had already been booked at the time then it will mean they serve a suspension in line with being sent off.

FOr me that isn't a harsh enough punishment however I guess they have to keep the punishment consistent with FIFA regulations about the punishment handed out if the ref thinks you dived during the game.

From the start of the season until january 1st this will be piloted by having a panel reviewing games however no yellow cards will be dished out until after January 1st when the scheme will come into force. The pilot period is to allow the SFA to determine whether they thkn the scheme is going to work and they will also be warning clubs if they have repeat offenders.

This has all come about since Gordon Smith (ex Rangers player) took over as CHief Executive - good to see someone come in and actually make changes for the better - the ENglish FA could learn a thing or two from that.

How about this for a penalty, when someone is judged to be cheating after they finished their ban they must play the next 3 matches with their name replaced on the back of their shirt with the words 'cheating c**t'. Now that would take the piss out of them.

I hate that "the refs decision is final"-rubbish. This basicaly means that a player should learn how to dive really good so that the ref doesn't notice. The fact that everybody else can see that he dived doesn't really matter.

When are FIFA going to realize that refs isn't perfect and they do make mistakes. Some even makes alot of mistakes. Refs the name of Poll makes more mistakes than correct decisions even.

Time to stop protecting the refs.

I bloody hate diving...ESPECIALLY from our own players. pisses me off royally.
