Essien's Strike
so im reading we might risk cech tonight against wigan to keep our title hopes alive - does anyone think maybe since man u have pretty much got it sewn up that maybe we should focus completely on the champions league? i mean we gave it a damn fine shot and ran then right to the wire but they beat arse and would have to somehow drop 8 points (two losses and a draw) for us to actually win the title.. well id bet the house that aint happening. so why shouldnt we be prudent and play to what we CAN acheive? namely final victory in the european cup? if we play cech with some kind of faceguard, hes gonna look like some kind of mental case from the asylum! a facemask and a head guard? what happens if he receives a blow from heskey or someone? then he is surely out of the CL and if we have to take an injury stricken Carlo and a dodgy Hilario to the CL well im sorry than i dont fancy our chances as much. of course you cant please everyone and a load of people will cry out if grant rests loads of players in the Prem to have them fit for the CL, but i think running ourselves into the ground chasing a lost cause is stupider.. your thought? Maksimov
We've got enough players to keep the fight going on both fronts, but I don't think it's worth it to risk Cech for tonight's match. Hilario is a decent enough keeper and should be able to handle Wigan alright. As for putting all our eggs in the European basket, I don't think it's worth it. All it takes is for ManU to play one draw against one team(other than ourselves ofcourse) and we keep on winning and that's it. When there's still hope, I don't want to throw in the towel, so to speak.

Essien's Strike
if we are 6 points behind then they must lose two games for us to draw - and their goal difference means they would still need to at least draw another game (dropping 2 points) for us to win (assuming we win every game)... even if we win our game against them they still need to lose another and draw another - the way they are playing i dont see it.. We've got a game in hand, so if we win our next two matches, we will be even on points with the Mancs, so IF we should win all our remaining matches, the Mancs would need to play just one draw in one of their remaining matches(not counting our match) and we would win it. Stranger things have happened in football. I think it's well worth to try and go for the league as well.

callista
I've never believed in giving up and I think we need to continue to fight on both fronts until the death. That said, Man Utd don't look like throwing this away now - we would have to play infinitely better than we are now in my view to beat them. It's theirs to lose now in all honesty. Jack
To be perfectly honest I think we need to pull out all the stops to claim 2nd place from The Arse seeing as they will probably win all 4 of their remaining games and I'm only banking on Bolton for the 3 points. As far as Thursday goes, Grunt got it completely wrong leaving out Drogba and Joey Cole last night in readiness for the harder game - now it's almost irrelevent. I'd put out a scratch side, give The Toffees the 3 points that puts them on Liverpoo's tail, thus pushing Benitez to play a half-decenty side at Fulham this saturday. With any luck Gerrard, Torres and co will all play giving us half a chance next Tuesday (if they pick up an injury). All conjecture of course. My gut feeling is that all the "3rd time lucky", "it's about time", "2nd leg at home", notions are just pie in the sky. The fact is that Grunt has destroyed what Mourinho made, taken away any confidence the players and fans had, and with any luck The Speckled One will pack his bags and piss off at the end of May. We deserve to win naff all this season and bar the FA Youth Cup (fingers crossed), that's what we'll end up with. Play whatever team you want on Thursday, Grunt, and on Tuesday and beyond. You've done for us with your uninspiring 'leadership' and we ain't going nowhere!
loz
Call me a ridiculous optimist but I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet. If we fail to get all three points on Thursday then my tune will change but if we are approaching the game at the Bridge at most 5 points behind them I am not prepared to put my tail between my legs. Yes I realise it is going to take a massive improvement for us to beat Utd but I don't think it is beyond us. So on those grounds I don't concur with the idea of playing a weakened side against Everton. If Grant did that and we didn't win then Utd dropped points away at Blackburn then he would get criticised by everyone for giving up on the league. bonetti
FFS we should go all out to win every game - thats the least that the Club owe to the fans. Nothing pisses me off more than c**ts like Liverpool and Arsenal throwing competitions just to concentrate on one piece of glory - if we start doing that I will definitely switch my loyalties to Wimbledon FC C'mon Chels
