Except Torres has been "tosh" this year and last year and is right now. What makes you think he will be better next year? When was he actually last any good? Of course Torres wants to score here and be successful here. Like Drogba or Anelka or Kalou or anyone else doesn't! If we are going to build a new team around the players you suggest - and I can perfectly see the logic of that - then Ancelotti should get on with it instead of trying to mix and match and accommodate the old guard and the new guard. All he is doing is getting the worst of all worlds. If Drogba is out in the summer then leave him out completely. Set the team up to provide for Torres. I think it's more to do with tactics TBB. He looks up and Essien is stood a yard away and Ramires and Zhirkov/Malouda narrow. He needs them to play wide so he can spread the play and then has space to make his runs into the box. Whilst I agree he still looks off the pace there is still plenty there as we saw with his second goal last night. Give him the opportunities and he will slot them.

He took him off because he was injured after being knee'd in the back. The rest is true. The issue isn't so much with Torres. I'm sure he'll come good in time. I'm with Just on this. Far too much apologising on Torres' behalf going on. He was playing poorly at Liverpool and he has brought that form with him. He has had chances to score but he has made a hash of them. This business of him not being passed to is the biggest load of bull I've read on here for a longtime.

You seriously think that other players are deliberately refusing to pass to him? Just because Malouda was a bit keen to make an impression having been left on the bench when the match was already won doesn't mean that there is some sort of campaign to deny Torres any possession. This is Torres' 5th game and he has looked anxious in front of goal and has been in a team that is not playing very well. He has had chances but hasn't taken them. I'm sure he will come good but the team should just play their game rather than try to force it for Torres.

Kalou did more to win that match than Torres did.

That's because he keeps mis controlling it when in good positions. He could have scored against Utd twice in the last few minutes but completely f**ked it up both times. So no wonder he hasn't had many shots. Also he won't shoot with his left. Not really acceptable for a £50m striker.

You might consider that every time Torres has been in a good scoring position he has f**ked it up. Might make you think twice about giving it to him.

Papering over the cracks I'd say. A win but a very poor performance. Farce over who was coming on for Drogba. At least the eventual decision was right. Kalou did make a difference. Bosingwa was a liability. Offers nothing going forward anymore and defensively hasn't got a clue. Torres might be good one day but at the moment he is a waste of space. Downbeat after a victory I know but that's how it feels.
