Really excited to see him against us in the CL, have a bad feeling he's going to score against us! Is there a chance we could try and tie up a deal before Janruary for him?

Very happy with our transfer activity this summer, adding Mata and Meireles is just what we need and I have high hopes for Lukaku as well. Lots of very young and promising players in too. Being fussy, since it was quite clear Levy wasnt going to sell Modric, I think it's a shame we didn't go in for Sneijder/Nasri and maybe even Aguero - I know they wouldn't have been cheap at all, but they're all world class and would've possibly/probably been keen on a move to Chelsea. Very interested to see our new lineup though, especially with Sturridge back too :)

Yup, certainly seems that way - great news and frankly I can't see us setting up any other way (certainly Sturridge and Mata behind a striker, be it Torres, Drogba or Lukaku)

I think it's a bit of a generalisation but not an entirely incorrect one. Have to say, with my experience of Liverpool fans is that they do mostly fit that criteria, but they're also usually quite light hearted about things and up for a bit of banter just as much (if not more) as fans of other teams.

Such good news, welcome Raul! Genuinely for the money, I'd much prefer this signing over £40m for Modric. Delighted right now.

Just a thought: Christian Eriksen. Fantastic player, very creative and fits the number 10 role perfectly. Similar player to Modric IMO, but a lot younger, and would be a lot cheaper. Complete long shot, but what are the chances we'd go in for him?

Agree 100% for last season, but he's had a break and this should be a new start, it shouldn't be effecting him now.

If getting smashed by both Manchester United and Manchester City hasn't been a big wake up call to Spurs' top players (Modric, VdV, Bale) then hopefully the rocky season they're surely (and hopefully) about to have will be. If we don't get Luka today, I really hope we keep Yossi and give both him and Josh more of a chance, before swooping again at a later transfer window for a reasonable price.

Whilst I do think Chelsea desperately need someone more creative in midfield, and someone who can thread through some killer balls to Torres (Mata fills that role perfectly, so would Modric) I'm getting fed up with everyone using it as a scapegoat for what have been some rather lacklustre performances from him. The game against us last season was a brilliant example, he didn't get anywhere near the level of service that we're all saying he needs, yet he showed his class by scoring two utterly stunning goals out of nothing. That's what he's capable of, that's the Torres we've seen playing for not only Liverpool over the last few years, but Atletico before that too. Yes the service has been poor, yes we can be more creative, yes we can find players more suited to his game, but no, not in any way does that justify his performances so far. But he did show glimpses at Stoke, his work-rate increased dramatically, as did his desire, and he looked far more lively and threatening because of it.

Yup, pretty sure you're allowed to play for 2 teams in a season, and even then isn't it reset in the transfer window? I swear players like PVA have played for us, and two loan clubs in a season before.

I think as someone mentioned, he'd probably be better off learning from Josh than anyone else! If he can work on his technique and his first touch, he has the potential to be practically unstoppable. I think he'd be very effective for Stoke, score a lot of goals and would be an incredible signing for them... but I don't think it'd really aid his development much

It's quite ludicrous to suggest that Chelsea have a better squad than United, they have a number of key players out at the moment and are completely smashing our rivals out of the park (although I appreciate that is more to do with the decline of Arsenal and Tottenham as much as anything!) We're playing catchup, but we're doing a good job of it. Most importantly we seem to be building a good squad now, adding youth, creativity and inventiveness into the side, and also signing a good number of players who will hopefully be stars for us in the future too.

He was Liverpool's best player the season before we signed him, better than Torres, better than Gerrard, better than Mascherano - all of my Liverpool supporting friends were genuinely quite gutted when we signed him. He has looked fantastic for us whenever he's played, in particular his link-up play with Torres has always impressed me. It baffles me that he hasn't been given more of a chance this season, since I really believe we need someone like him in the team. But I do have faith in AVB, and if he doesn't see a place for Yossi then so be it, but personally, I am rather disappointed by this news.

Interesting tweet from Jack Wilshere: Don't understand why Chelsea brought Mata when they have a player like Josh Mceachran in the squad! Class player #justsaying I (of course) know they will be playing different positions, but I think Wilshere actually has a point in that Josh should be getting more game time with us.
