Did anyone watch chiallini last night , even before the sending of the guy had a shocking game, looked so far from a defender it was unbelievable, I don't watch him week in week out but many on here kind of wanted him and that was as bad and worse then anything I have seen from Luiz

@just just cant entirely agree with you, if we want to mention pros, several have also stated they could see him thriving in the sweeper system, main reason being there is less emphasis on marking . Even you your self have posted that he did a very decent job playing in DM a position that also requires a lot of positional accuman. My personnel opinion is that he's not as bad as made out and I am actually very much looking forward to what he does bring to the picture . Many people will say, (including me) " well if passion is all you need them let's have xx in" seems effort and passion should be a given , but some how 20 odd players failed to show some last season so it seems to have jumped the list a bit in. Regarding the top defender but I have a couple of points. 1) I think he's better then Cahill and Ivan by the way. 2) I think 30 mill on him is better then 60 being talked about for koubali for me 3) and this is key ... Would you say that either gullit or hoddle ages 35ish where any better as defenders. If conte is looking to play 3, Luiz could turn out to be a huge success sweeping up and it seems that conte wants to go from front to back very quickly, terry is an excellent passer of the ball but Cahill is not great with the range , Luiz offers another that can release players quickly

@g3.7 and two European trophys with him, the point was not in any way related to the actuall performance last season. I don't know maybe your lacking sleep but if you connect the dots with the post I quoted it's quite clear that I'm saying everything Luiz does is under a microscope like Costa in some ways, Ivan for one will be glad he's back

The more this went on the more i came to like it. I feel he's always a fantastic guy to have in the trenches and didn't really wan't to see him gone first time around but for 50 million it was just to good to be true. We lacked leaders last season and this guy is a leader. In a back two he could be a bit risky but playing a back 3 sweeping, we could see the risk massively reduced. I think we could see something like this. ...................TBO............. .....Zouma.........Luiz..........Terry Azpi.................................Alonso ...................Kante................. .......willian.............Matic........... .................Hazard............. ..................Costa...................... Can easily go two up top, Oscar/fabregas/ Nathan are all interchangeable in midfield, luiz can step up in to DM, if need be with Ivan of Cahill slipping in, next season Christianson to come back. In general I think the signings we have made give us flexibility and quality squad depth.

You don't have to go that far with regards to shocks in football Leicester I mean) we won a champions league in Munich against Munich with Luiz at center back with a half a hamstring

@g3.7 the truth is we don't know if he's good enough, most on this forum don't. There are hysterical reactions based on little to nothing , he could be the new del Nono or the new petrescu that's kind of what's exciting. As I pointed out earlier, if we had brought kante for 5 million before last season people on here would have had a very similar reaction . he could be a steaming pile of sh*t but I'll reserves judgement till I see him regularly. but the point remains it seems to be a signing with a plan behind it and that in its self is a step forward from last years debacle

Why i like the deal - it's simple, It feels like it's conte's target (I guess we will find out if he actually plays) in the few games i have seen so far it seems that conte is trying to increase the number of bodys we get in the box on the attack (thank g-d) and also increase the number crosses coming in to the box - I have no evidence through stats to back that up, just the way it feels. This signing seems to tick the box of getting the ball in to the box more. Also he seems to be an athaletic hard working defender who is going to get up and down. Additionally If it means Azpi moving out to the right and Ivan taking a step back in to a more squad focused role then it shows awareness on the part of conte, something lack from both Jose and Guss last season with regards to the big rightback blind spot

come now BJD - don't pretend you don't want to see those locks flowing in the wind as he starts his marourding run from our own goal line!! the pashion, the tenacity, the force of nature that is Luiz I want this to happen and not happen in equal meshure - that's not to say that im indiferent. We can't have shipped that many, we where top 2 in the league that season and he played next to fabregas, it's a massive exaggeration to say he was sh*t the second half of that season
