Players to sell (evergreen "deadwood" thread)
Yep… But there is a silver lining in that most of this deadwood, their contracts end in 2022 so only 1 more year of holding onto this as I doubt anyone is going to buy them. Players with contracts ending in 2022: Emerson, Zappacosta, Rahman, Miazga, Clarke-Salter, Bakayoko, Barkley, Drinkwater, Baker, Batshuayi, Musonda That is a huge list and pretty much is every deadwood player we have. I think we just grit our teeth for another 10 months or so and then wave goodbye end of the season. Just hoping Marina doesn’t do something stupid and offer extensions just for the sake of trying to sell them for more money, because nobody is going to buy them, we’ve been trying to sell these for years and nothing has come of it

Jules Kounde
Which is why I suspect we badly wanted Hakimi... But he joined PSG instead so there's not much we can do when there aren't enough quality options for RWB

Official Thomas Tuchel *Now Sacked*
I would only really sell Ziyech out of those. We are going to be in multiple competitions next year so will need to rotate, not to mention in case of any injuries

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
I dont see much improvement from his previous time in the PL based on that video tbh. Terrible first touch and makes awful passes that cant find the man

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
If he scores a bunch of pens and tap ins against poor opposition but goes missing in the big games and when you really need him, is he worth it then?

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
Totally transformed? Look at this video and tell me it isnt essentially the same player people were laughing at when he was at Utd. Some of the things in this is quite frankly embarrassing https://twitter.com/touchlinefracas/status/1424671511948955650?s=20

Players to sell (evergreen "deadwood" thread)
Those cheapskates probably didnt wanna pay anything more than 5m per player. We forget that whilst the prem is cash rich, these teams in the other leagues outside of the obvious big teams are all just poor

Erling Haaland
His release clause activates next season and when he has his pick of clubs for around 60m the chances of him joining us are very slim.

Erling Haaland
Those were friendlies and this was a cup game?

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
Spot on. Also in fairness to Christensen, he's always shown that hes technically brilliant and had the potential to be elite, but confidence and sometimes physicality was his main problem

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
I will HAPPILY be proven wrong, its not like I want him to fail? If he comes in and has shown he's a massively improved player in the prem compared to how he was at United and is scoring goals for fun then i will more than happily say I was wrong about him. He does have a pretty decent scoring record, but I want him to play well overall as well. If he offers nothing to the team except score a few tap ins here and there thats not enough for me. Only time will tell anyway, just hoping it goes well despite my pessimistic view on it

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
Lets come back to this in a few months and see who's laughing. You can bring out the goal stats, but if he plays like a donkey the majority of the time it doesnt matter. Its like have a stinker for 90 mins and then just scoring a penalty to get on the score sheet

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
Serie A isnt the best league to compare to, but if you looked at his overall performance some of those games it wasnt great. Same goes for the prem. Anyway whats done is done now, I hope he proves me wrong so lets see

Erling Haaland
Scored a hat trick yesterday in Dortmund's first game of the season. A shame we missed out on him, should have paid whatever they were asking for given his age and potential. He could have stayed with us for 5 years, scored bags of goals and won countless trophies and still only been 25!! We could have easily sold him after if he wanted to leave for the same or more money
-
Harry Kane.
150m for Kane who's 28 and spends a couple months of the season injured? Wouldnt have been right for us despite him being a quality player, but for City who just chuck money at it its probably fine.

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
Im not sure on the exact sum of money, but if it really was going to be 200m then fair enough. But 100m on someone who's 28, and probably only has a few years left at this level? Seems like a lot of money that could have been spent elsewhere imo.

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
Maybe it was harsh to say "poorly" but he hasnt exactly shown hes worth this amount of money. He was good for Inter, but given his age its far too much money imo.

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
That window looks okay, but its still a bit early to tell on a few of them tbh. Silva was definitely a world class signing and has been nothing but stellar. Mendy has been quality at times but definitely shaky at points and the likkes of Werner, Havertz, Chilwell the jury's still out as for large parts of last season they looked pretty poor - Though they did improve massively under Tuchel so I hope it carries on. Ziyech has been poor for the majority and I wouldnt judge him just based on a couple pre season games
-
Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
He was okay at Everton and WBA, but certainly not 100m worthy or anywhere near that. He was poor at United. He's only really looked pretty good at his 2 seasons at Inter, but even then you could argue that hes definitely had quite a few poor moments whilst he was there and the fact it is Serie A which is a worse league than the Bundesliga. And we know how Werner has faired for us this past year. Anyway whats done is done now, id happily be proven wrong and Lukaku comes in and dominates the league like a prime Drogba, but sadly cant see it happening based on what ive seen and past experience
-
Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
His problem was never strictly scoring goals, it was that hes a flat track bully who can sometimes bully poor teams but fails against anyone remotely decent

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
Spending this amount of money on a player who's quite "old" now is quite insane as within a couple years he will be finished? It is you that apparently knows very little about the club finances as we just spunked 100m on a premier league flop when a Haaland was availlable at the right price. And yes the club has been terrible with transfers? Look back at the past 5 years and who has really stood out as marquee signings? Kante, maybe Jorginho (loads of people still dont rate him) and who else? I certainly cant think of anyone.. Please enlighten me. Even looking back at last summers Frank signings they've all been underwhelming for the majority of the season? Havertz and possibly Chilwell definitely have some potential but the vast majority of our signings have been quite poor.

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
By the end of the season he will be 29. Lewandowski, Ronaldo and Messi have been world class throughout their entire careers, whereas Lukaku hasnt even been 1 tenth of the level they have been so dont compare him to the likes of them. Age is but a number for technically gifted players, not flat track bullies who rely on pace and power
-
Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
Haaland wouldnt cost anywhere near double. Lukaku cost 100m, Haaland would have been about 140m whilst being on similar wage Also top 5 striker in world football atm doesnt even mean much when in this current era there is a severe lack of top quality forwards. Not to mention that Haaland is also in that top 5 anyway, and better than Lukaku imo, with much greater upside

Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!
100m for someone who will be 29 soon, very little resale value and has done pretty poorly at most the clubs hes been at (barring last season with inter) Why on earth did we not pay a bit more to get Haaland who is only 20, not even hit his prime yet and even if he stays for 5 years we can resell and get all the money back + likely even more??? Has a much higher ceiling as well. Instead we are signing someone who's probably past his best and when he was last in the prem he was a laughing stock. We are pretty awful when it comes to incoming transfer dealings. In the past 5 years, could probably count on 1 hand the amount of quality signings we've made

Jack Grealish
Now that hes gone to City I hope he flops massively and doesnt live upto his price tag at all He was pretty poor today as well when he came on as sub in the community shield, lets hope that level of performance carries on 😂
