magoo reacted to F1905 in Vintage Blues pictures and filmFor me i know my attendance dropped off late eighties as I brought my first flat and moved in with the Doris of the day so money became tight.Having done, like so many fans home and away games for 10 plus years i was also knackered and i have to admit a wet night in Walsall ,again wasnt as appealing as it had previously been....cant miss a game was a mantra that no longer applied then
Moving fast forward i hated euro 96 with Skinner and that song, still hate it now ,painted faces and sh*te,yeh gods
I really got my love of home and away games back ,cant miss a game ,cant miss a game when Rudd signed ,and that team came together under Wisey,we played some great football ,had the old CFC style back ,didn’t win every game but we put in a performance...unlike todays shower
european game !fukcing marvellous, just like the old days
And then i slowly got worn down again by it all ,not CFC but bastrd sky and super sunday and magic monday and the death of 3 o’clock Saturday, sky ha ha prices become stupid
but i kept going ,just just in the hope that my beloved club could win the league....just once in my time...and we did and i was there in Bolton, thanks Frank...as a sign maybe of the times i was there with my current Doris....so i had changed as well
sadly that last home game against Charlton, party atmosphere, happy days ,but in the queue going into the Matthew Harding a kid of maybe 8 had his flag on a stick ,waving away with the biggest smile on his face and I thought he’s going to be the next generation and will go for the next 30 ,40 years and then as he got to the turnstile, the bastrd steward took the flag off him as it was a dangerous weapon,i went mad .....i so felt for the kid and that was my last game going in....

magoo reacted to bluehaze in Vintage Blues pictures and filmTo me it showed what a travesty it was getting relegated the gulf between us and clubs like Walsall was huge we could have had double figures that day. I hated that season to be honest I thought I'd left going to places like Walsall behind in 1984. The hangover from the Boro game lasted until we beat Leeds 2-0 and then it was pretty much a cakewalk City away was a good day and that was it.

magoo reacted to Richard P in Vintage Blues pictures and filmStill can’t believe I got the day off school during my Exams! Still only 15 and enjoyed Ken Bates party for 200-250 supporters who travelled the most that season. Found this picture of myself on the Getty images website wearing my Le coq sport if tracksuit top.

magoo got a reaction from erskblue in Vintage Blues pictures and filmGreat pictures. Awful away Leicester kit at the time.
Looking at the photos of the East Stand the seats looked fairly full. I was in The Shed that day which was also fairly full. This would indicate an "actual" crowd of circa 25 - 28,000?? Without looking it up I would guess the "reported" crowd was around 17,000. Got to love Uncle Ken!

magoo reacted to The Rising Sun in Vintage Blues pictures and filmIt might be an NF leaflet, but it uses the same terminology that the far left also uses, linking Jews to greed and money.

magoo reacted to erskblue in Vintage Blues pictures and filmHopefully the second picture is of our away support that day in 1984 at Selhurst Park.
The original caption isn't specific about game or date. It simply states 'Selhurst Park 1980s.'
If not, it would probably give a good indication of our support that day.
Hope this helps mate.

magoo reacted to Richard P in Vintage Blues pictures and filmIt’s a shame there isn’t a better picture of our way support. We had the whole of the Homesdale that day, with palace down the Sainsburys end. We also had the seats in the Arthur Waite stand behind the side terrace of palace.
We had around 15,000 there, Palace were averaging 5,000 and it was Officially around 19,000 although I would say more were there. I was in the seats which was brilliant and the sight of the terrace was brilliant, just like the bit you can see in the pictures above

magoo reacted to erskblue in Vintage Blues pictures and filmI was at the same school as David Hopkins who played for us briefly in the early ish 1990s
And so was in the same school side as him.
Even at that young age, he was so much better than the rest of us technique wise.
It was amazing to watch how his career playing wise developed.
My old man played against Charlie Cooke, when Charlie Cooke was just starting out in Non League football in Scotland
He always stated that Cooke was 'by far the best player he ever played with or against'.
Tenuous Chelsea connection, that I fully accept.

magoo reacted to Ewan Hoozarmi in Vintage Blues pictures and filmWith all the concrete and breeze blocks on display, it looks like the back of the East Stand?

magoo reacted to MKBlue in Funny happenings at games ,spill your beansI'd hazard a guess that to this day there's many a blue wakes up sweating after dreaming about that day at Ashton Gate. It was the first awayday for my little bruv, who'd have been 11 or 12 then. Drove down from MK in the morning to pick him up at Hammersmith Odeon, beautiful day, warm and sunny. If I remember correctly it was already pissing it down by the time we parked up. Very moody atmosphere around that day, and we probably parked in the wrong spot, but all I can remember outside the ground is little mobs of Bristol lads looking for their fun. Horrible day all round.

magoo reacted to Richard P in Worst away end you been on ?Everton! Unless you got near the wall at the back it was terrible. Especially as the first couple of rows were below pitch level.
-
magoo reacted to The Rising Sun in Vintage Blues pictures and filmApologies if it's been uploaded before, but I like the image , don't often see The Bridge from behind the East stand

magoo reacted to erskblue in Arsenal v Chelsea on 25th Aug 1984Fair points. In saying that I was still pleased that Stoke City beat Leeds Utd in the EFL Cup last night.
One team that I've never had any dislike for, has been Man City.
I'd still prefer it, even for all their money, City won the Premiership before Spuds, Liverpool or Arsenal,

magoo reacted to Richard P in Vintage Blues pictures and filmI won a penalty shootout pre season 83/84 against that goalkeeper, Grant Lunn was his name. Terry Howard is next left to him then Perry Baldacchino there were three black players Robin Beste Ian braithwaite and stockley sawyers. Martin Nolan is by the cup. One of them will be Bobby Isaccs who was stabbed at Millwall the following year. Not bad now I’m 51!!
