i can associate with that story, and i can laugh. I am not a scouser but my parent are and i lived there for 4 years while i was at uni. It was always my favourite thing about returning after holidays to see how long i had to wait after getting off the train before seeing a shell suit. never has been a good look, but what can i do?

I dont think i am deluding myself actually loz. I know that we are held in higher regard outside of this country than we are within it. You only have to look at the results we have had in europe over the last 3 years to see what we can acheive. It is domestically that we have struggled. Chelsea - domestic champions Juventus - at the time league leaders domestic champions (albeit cheats) Barcelona - domestic and European champions AC Milan - domestic champions (possibly?) PSV - domestic champions (i think) Monaco - champions league runners up Galatasary - domestic champions (i think) Bayer Leverkusen Olimpiacos - domestic champions we have beaten all of these sides, won 5 european cups, won two uefa cups, maybe a fews years ago they would all have been screaming out to play us, but not now, i dont think so anyhow.

Thanks for the well done. Should have won comfortably last night though, which after the United result is a real worry now that we cant beat these teams off when we are on top. about the flags, what is your opinion on this? I held back initially but i think its a bit pathetic that it takes the club to do this. I like the effect of it, but it appears a bit fake and plastic. I would applaud it loudly if it was a fan initiative, but it is us supporters who should make the stadium look and sound terrific, not the club helping you on the way. Just my thoughts, what are yours?

I was just interested in those flags that were so evident last night. I've seen them before for one of your games as well. I just wondered if it was an initiative from the fans, or whether it was the club who organised it. I know that for our European Cup final in Rome in '77 there were a tonne of red and white checquered flags handed out, but it was done by the fans and i was just interested as to who initiated this? I dont know whether you've seen the laughable geordies swinging the black and white scarves that the club put on the seats at the home games this season.

why thank you sir, and other, obviously bjd aside I was sh*tting it when they scored after 14 minutes, as they had come close a few times in the minutes before and looked like they might steamroller us. Have to admit we got very luck with the equaliser, very poor goalkeeping, but in the whole i think we deserved the result. We missed two very good chances. We're not through yet though so i shalln't get too carried away at this stage, we will need a better ref than last night to stop my from sh*tting myself in the second leg too.

notloB are realistically the only team outside the big four that could get 4th place, i can't see Reading getting it and they are 6 points clear of Portsmouth. You might notice that you are only 3 points clear of them. and the Arse have the game in hand, who knows maybe they could get 3rd but lets not get carried away here. I notice that you are also only using premiership form, you were humiliated twice at home by Arsenal last month and as has been stated above you haven't had particularly difficult fixtures. Chelsea and notloB at home excluded. But more recently you didn't do well against Everton and certainly not against Newcastle. i only included the league games because we are talking about final league positions. Everton for us is always going to be a difficult game, no matter how sh*t they are, because they not only raise their game, but this time parked a bus in front of the goal (to coin a phrase from Mourinho). The last game at Newcastle was hugely disappointing, but it is far from an easy game, espeicially with the condition of the pitch and so much standing water, we really should have won that game though. As for humiliation in the cups, had we not lost the second one would losing 3-1 to arsenal in the FA Cup be a humiliation? Its a dissapointing result, but far from humiliating. The second game bears no resemblance on our league season, the team was full of either youth or reserve team players, many who have never played together before, and a goalie who is clearly no use any more. At the end of the day, in those two games they only had someting like 12 shots on target and scored 9 goals, embarrasing scorelines admittedly but they have no reflection on our league form or position. we will get 4th minimum, i promise you that. Also consider that Bolton have to play Arsenal, Chelsea and United yet.

are you sure?? Please tell me what Bolton's form is like? Liverpools last 15 Premiership games; Won 10, Drawn 3, Lost 2. What is this sh*te about recent form? Even if you take last 5 its won 3, drawn 1, lost 1. I have unfortunately never met a blackburn or bolton fan who talks anything but nonsense about football, and the trend appears to continue here. it just wouldnt be right if i didnt reply. Steve Gerrard is the superior all round player. Lampard is great if you can accomodate another 2 players into the team to do the things he can't be arsed doing, like defending, tackling, closing down players etc, but if you want a man who can do EVERYTHING to a very high standard, there is only one choice.

potentially a 1 horse race, as although United are spending money, it seems to be 1 big signing at a time. Carrick for 17m, Hargreaves for 20m etc. I personally dont give a f**k about him supporting Bush. You or I may think he is an idiot, but who in politics can be backed with big money without motives and agendas? I dont personally consider that to be dirt. With regard to Rafas spending, i think the big thing will be the clubs negotiating skills being tested. If people think we have buckets full of cash they will want to fleece us, and judging on our negotiations for Alves and Simoa (to name 2) ove the last couple of years, that is where i can see us falling down. I am confident in Rafa. When he has spent big money he has spent it well in my opinion, Garcia, Alonso, Reina, Kuyt etc. Its when hes had to buy what he can afford like Pennant he has struggled. In terms of big money only Morientes would be considered a waste in my opinion, but i agree with you, now we have the cash (supposedly) he will have to deliver a high success rate in terms of transfers.

whatever could you mean loz? I obviously cannot speak for 'Liverpool Fans', but i can speak for myself and give a reflection of the opinion on the forum that i use. I think there is definately a worry, not only on his bankruptcy, but also on his previous business strategy, although i do beleive the the introduction of Tom Hicks into the deal has allayed some fears. There was a lot of digging up on this guy when the DIC bid was rejected and it did not make comfortable reading. The bankruptcy in itself is not a major issue as it was due to economic factors. Many successful businessmen have been bankrupted before (Richard Branson for one) but his model for business appeared to be this; Find a failing business, turn it around into a successful business quickly, sell it for profit. SHORT TERM, is what screamed out. I have to put my faith in the club on this one as i am far from an economic scholar, but i am certinaly uneasy about Gillett. I just hope that Hicks will make it a more stable deal as i have only read good things about him. I am delighted that there is no money borrowed against the club, unlike both United and Arsenal (stadium) but there, i fear, will always be some level of concern.

not totally sure what your asking, but my opinion on the take over changes daily at the moment. I am a little concerned that DIC were talked up by the club for so long and this Gillett guy branded the devil, so a u-turn is a little worrying. The money is obviously a welcome addition if it means the new stadium gets going (finally) and we can go for the players we have not quite managed to get hold of (ie missing out on Alves last summer), but i would not like to see us throw wads about in the manner you have. Not elitist or morale high ground at all but i think chucking cash around (20 million carvalho, 18m Mikel, however bloody much on Ferreira, 21m on SWP etc) is wrong and i would hate to see us do it. I ultimately feel it will be for the good of the club but this may be rose tinted glasses and we (fans) may get screwed, who knows. I am sure Arsenal fans wish there wasnt an entire corporate section around their stadium splitting the tier up and i dont want my season ticket price to double to ensure two pretty rich men who know nothing about our club make a buck or two. I am apprehensive at the moment, but my fingers are firmly crossed.

So, he wasn?t brilliant last night, but you could tell he was lacking in confidence. I?m interested in getting your opinions on him, not only as a player, but as to where and why it went wrong for him. I think there are probably 3 possible schools of thought about him, and I can probably guess which will be taken by the majority of you lot, but lets see. Here?s the three schools as I see it. 1. He played above his real level at City and was a good player in a sh*t team so stood out above the rest and his real level is not good enough to justify playing regularly at your place. 2. He is a good player who has great potential, but by not giving him adequate playing time, Chelsea have stunted his development and ruined a top prospect (This is what I believe) 3. A combination of points 1 and 2, he was a top class prospect and he has been given enough chances but he hasn?t delivered and does not deserve any more chances than he has been given. Just interested to see what you think, and there may well be a different opinion than those listed above, but I expect the majority of you to see things as in option 3.
