i was always a firm believer that its better to choose your formation based on players you have than to choose players based on formation you want. we dont have wingers, so why insist on a formation that relies heavily on them? just play the narrow diamond, 2 strikers upfront, mata behind them + lampard, ramires and meireles. that way we put our best 11 on the pitch and dont have to rely on a totally useless malouda and sturridge whos mentaly just not suited for a winger it worries me that for a young manager hes very reluctant to try something else.

im really puzzled by some of the criticism lukaku gets on these boards. hes an 18 yr old kid who came from significantly weaker league and has yet to play a full game. doring those few minutes he gets here and there i actually think he fared pretty well. i cant name many 18yr olds who showed more in the premiership. rooney comes too mind but i cant think of anybody else

i would be quite hesitant to put all 3 plus mata into a starting lineup, and IMO those are players that will ask for a starting spot. their wages would probably be no joke either. also, bringing in those 3 would require more than 100M euros, i think its madness to spend that much on midfield. especially since we got an aging left back, a dreadfully out of form striker and our RB depth could be touched up

i thought about it for a long time now. people were saying drogba and nando cant play together, but at this point you can just as easily say nando cant play at all and drogba can barely play. with mata and torres behind drogba i feel its worth a try
