I believe its more a case of him not being in our scheme of things and us being desperate for a player like Modric to take this team ahead. In such a scenario why would you hold on to Anelka and disrupt a possible move is beyond my understanding. Spurs are challenging for a CL spot and not the title, unless you are suggesting they would challenge us or United for the title I don't get what your concern is.

Not too sure what purpose this move would serve for the player or the club. With Yuri gone he should be the backup given his experience that he has gathered in the last few years. If anything it should be Van Aanholt who should be out on loan and playing for a team regularly.

He may still be a good striker but I am not too sure he is good enough to start for a top team week in week out. If he is a part of the Modric deal I would be more than glad to see it happen. At this moment I am worried about our system and squad rather than what he would achieve at Spurs.

I dont think wingers are going to help Torres be the player that he was at Pool. Torres blossomed in a side which involved Kuyt and Gerrard playing out wide (not necessarily wingers) with Yossi playing in the middle and feeding them off. Pastore is equally competent while playing in wide positions and to say Pastore is limited to being a creative central midfielder would not be fair. He does drift wide and add a lot more to our game, as far as a right back is concerned, I would like that to happen only if we sell Alex/ Bosingwa. If we don't sell either of them I think we are in good enough shape for the time being.

Add to it the ignorance about issues such as Financial fair play etc makes you wonder if they look at this as just an extension to their Fifa11/ FM 11.

Isn't that contradictory ? If he adores him and believes him to be a player that has an impact he should be starting games rather than coming on as a sub. And if that is indeed true I would be surprised if Johnson is actually happy because its clear that he is almost there in claiming a place in the national team but would Capello take a punt on his performance as a sub. I believe you have confused yourself regarding a player in development and a first team regular. Josh is currently learning his trade and any game time is only going to add to his growth but he surely isn't ready to start more than 15 games this season. On the other hand Pastore and Modric have both played enough football and have gathered adequate experience to merit a starting place. Its all good to be excited about Josh but at some point we have to be practical and realize that he still isn't the finished article yet which the other two seem to be. And what are those pressing needs if you can please throw some light on it?

Not sure where you got the 42 games started from but taking a common yardstick of Serie A (from soccernet) this is what the two hottest properties in Serie A look like. Pastore 34 starts 1 sub 11 goals and 5 assists Sanchez 27 starts 4 sub 12 goals and 6 assists Now compare that to an established world class player like Sneijder - 22 starts 3 subs 4 goals and 5 assists !! I hope you get the point Don't see much of a difference between these two creative lads and I am sure whose judgement I would go with since both the players are associated with a 35 million + move. What I'd like to suggest is keep in mind that Serie A as a league is far tactical and its not the best league to judge a creative player (as the comparison with Sneijder goes).

Chicharito doesn't plays for United week in and week out, or at least he dint do it in his first season. So I agree with Nibs over here that there is nothing for Sturridge to gain at Bolton, if he sticks around here he can be slowly brought into the setup like Fergie did with Chicharito. What I dont understand is how you say that it wouldn't harm us if he left on loan. Anelka and Drogba are closer to the finish line and Torres/ Sturridge are the only two who have some pace.
