Adam Johnson

Featured Replies

According to Ian McGary on Twitter Chelsea have been trying to buy Adam Johnson for the last six weeks and the player is interested in a move but Man City won't sell.

If this is true I would be happy to have him here. He can provide much needed width, provide as well as score goals, he's English and we could probably get him a lot cheaper than the ridiculous amounts been asked for other players we have been linked with.

I'm really not sure that rumours from twitter should get their own thread.

As for whether he would be let go, I said in the 'random rumours' thread about this, that bluemoon was awash with Kalou-esque criticism of him. He is also dogged by rumours of indiscipline. I can see a situation where he might be let go, but I'm not sure given what I've read of him from City fans that he is necessarily the option we are after.

I think he would be a good buy but as i said in another thread i cant see City selling him to us unless it is for way more than he is worth, like the Torres deal.

Can anyone point out to me a scenario under which City would be willing to sell him to us cause I'm struggling to think of one.

Maybe to get him of the wages bill, thats pretty much the only thing I can think off.

How much would he cost us? I've never really been a fan of Johnson - he's quite inconsistent and seems like a bit of a dick. If he's going to cost more than about £5m, I'd rather we take a look at someone like De Bruyne instead.

Ok. Still doesn't answer the "to us" part though.

No...Reckon we can get De Bruyne for about £8m and, to be honest, I'd rather have him anyway. If we can get Johnson for less than that then he might be worth considering, but otherwise I'd rather move on.

I think it would be a very clever move by ABB to buy him for that price. Its a creative player, homegrown and plays in a position where we desperatly need more options. I would be very happy if we bought johnsen for 10m, Ibrahim Afellay 4-5m and Modric 30m.

Couldn't you figure out the bullsh*t quotient of that article by just reading the first two lines?

Headline: Chelsea On Verge of Shock £10m Swoop for Man City & England Winger.

So its almost done, right? On the verge and all that.

Intro: Chelsea could be set to make a shock move for Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.

What? Could be set to make a move? So they haven't yet made a move and they are on the verge of a swoop?

Top journalism!

Yeah Mr SkyBlue, he must all that playing time too, haha! Anyway Johnson will cost us a fortune because he's English! I would much rather have Chung Yung Lee from Bolton or I would send Zhirkov and some cash to CSK Moscow for Keisuke Honda! Both young great talents from Asia that would pay dividends in the long run, especially Chelsea getting exposure over there...

I would like Johnson on board. We nearly signed him before but spent the usual time p*ssing around and City jumped in and signed him up. City may sell him as I dont think Mancini is to much of a fan and has his own ideas anyway. Wouldn't surprise me if City get Nasri and Aguero and then get rid of Johnson.

We would end up paying something stupid like £15m-£20m as a minimum though which i wouldnt be happy with.

Actualy mate Mancini adores Johno. When he returned from his lengthy Ankle injury last season Mancini gave a post match interview saying how the team is so much more dinamic when Johnson is available. He sees him as the ideal super sub who makes things happen when it's 0-0 with 20 mins left to play.

Johno knows this and is more than happy with his role at the club.

I stand corrected then!

I know Mancini likes him as a sub but whenever I saw him talking about him, he kept saying he was a good player but still needs to learn alot and needs to listen. I couldnt work out if that was Johnson not listening to what he says or Mancini not to fond of him and just giving excuses of why he doesnt get full games.

He can change games and is why i would like him! Though he does need a good run of games to build up some experience

Just seemed like a really low valuation. I doubt we could get Heskey for that much these days.

You tell me any player who is happy to come on for the last 20mins of a match and say they are happy with this role and I'll show you a lier.

All players want to be regular starters and play for 90 mins and that applies to Johnson. If he continues to be used sparingly he will become frustrated and you will have an unhappy player on your hands.

Isn't that contradictory ? If he adores him and believes him to be a player that has an impact he should be starting games rather than coming on as a sub. And if that is indeed true I would be surprised if Johnson is actually happy because its clear that he is almost there in claiming a place in the national team but would Capello take a punt on his performance as a sub. Ermmm

The source of the rumour appears to be the following article from Talksport

Chelsea could be set for a shock swoop for Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.

New Stamford Bridge boss Andre Villas-Boas is an admirer of the 24-year-old wide man and has been keeping tabs on him during pre-season.

Johnson was not a first choice for City last season, amid suggestions that manager Roberto Mancini was not convinced about him and, although he featured in 31 Premier League games, he started 16 of those games from the subs' bench.

Mancini would be loathe to lose Johnson without having a replacement lined up, although both James Milner and Shaun Wright-Phillips would offer width in place of the England winger.

And with UEFA's financial fair play regulations set to come into place by the end of next year, City may need to trim their squad as they look to complete a mulit-million pound deal for Atletico Madrid star Sergio Aguero..

Talksport: 'nuff said.
