Maverick Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 There is a dedicated thread on Alex's transfer, could this not be added in that? I don't see the point in having topics for such rumors.

Uno Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Why would we sell a great defender to Arsenal? Complete rubbish!
The Moos Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Why would we sell a great defender to Arsenal? Complete rubbish! In a way I would understand selling him. If Rajkovic gets a work permit then we would have five central defenders: Terry Rajkovic Luiz Alex Ivanovic Unless we've planned to only use Ivan as RB we might want to trim the squad a bit. I would be sad to see Alex go though and I would miss his freekicks. Also, to watch him pull on the Arsenal shirt would f*cking hurt.
Mike 93 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Also, we need to sell foreign players to buy them. Currently only having 1 place left for foreigners.
Uno Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Thats a big if. I havent heard anything about him being able to get a work permit, whats why he couldnt play against Pompy. Dont get me wrong i think we should be looking to sell Alex in a season or two but not to Arsenal. Also did you watch Rajkovic yesterday? He was pretty awful.
Hutch Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Also, we need to sell foreign players to buy them. Currently only having 1 place left for foreigners. There are still rumours linking both ourselves and Arsenal to Gary Cahill. I've got no idea whether there's any truth in any of them, but as you say, in view of the home grown rules, it would make a lot of sense to sell Alex and replace him with Cahill. Leaving Rajkovic out of the equation for the time being because nobody seems to know what's happening with his work permit.

I'd hope that between Rajkovic, Kalas, Bruma, and Chalobah we can manage a home grown fourth-choice centre-back on our own without spending the kind of money Cahill would require. In the short term, Essien's injury means we have a spot free til the end of the January transfer window, so there's no immediate pressure.

Rajkovic still hasn't got a work permit - the club may well be working towards getting it sorted out, but as it stands he's barred from playing in the UK. Bruma on a season-long loan. Yes I know it's two years, but we have an option to recall at the end of the season. Not before. And Chalobah is 16.
Cam Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Rajkovic I don't think will ever count as home grown, even when he does get a WP.
deg0ey Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Rajkovic I don't think will ever count as home grown, even when he does get a WP. He should do...has been registered at Chelsea since he was 18; unless they've changed the rules, then he'll be HG
HazardsLeftPeg Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 He should do...has been registered at Chelsea since he was 18; unless they've changed the rules, then he'll be HG He hasn't been "home" for a 3 year period though. In fact he's been out on loan abroad the whole time. Not sure how he'd qualify.
TheWestwayWonder Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 If we absolutely had to lose a veteran CB to make room for the up and comers form the youth team, Alex would be the one I would reluctantly part with. Nearly 30, and despite all his assets, the age seems to be catching up with him. IF we were offered similar to what we got for Riccy C. from Madrid or another club, I think the club would do well to jump on it and thank him for his service. He has been an unqualfieid success here, but if we need to start promoting from within, its gotta start from the back. I would really love to see what Rajkovic with the first team.
HazardsLeftPeg Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Chelsea's Alex confirms contact from Juventus & insists move to Serie A club would be a 'great opportunity' The Brazilian international has been strongly linked with a move away from Chelsea with competition for a first-team spot rife at the club following the arrival of David Luiz in the winter transfer window.Alex played the full 90 minutes in the Blues' 0-0 draw with Stoke City and while the centre-back is undoubtedly still a part of boss Villas-Boas' plans, and the 29-year-old is assessing his options before the close of the transfer window. Juventus have been credited with an interest in the former Santos player, and although the defender has suggested he would welcome the chance to play in Italy, he admitted the Turin-based club will have to buy him outright. Speaking to Sky Sport 24, Alex said: "I am aware of Juventus' interest, but I think they want to sign me on loan and this would not be a real alternative for me or Chelsea. "My agent has been contacted by Juventus, I am 29 years old and it would be a great opportunity. I would love to play in Italy and I hope I can realise this dream before I retire. "When I talked to my agent, I told him that Juve would be a real opportunity for me. Now, though, it all depends on Juve, who must come to an agreement with Chelsea. It is unlikely the club will accept a loan move." Its from goal.com but the quotes are interesting if true.
Spiller86 Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Shame that he feels he might have to move. I still think he is first choice when fit.
nonotnowjim Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Wouldnt want to lose him, but if we are looking to trim the foreign players in our squad he is still one of the candidates who i would accept. How long does he have let on his contract? and how much would we get for him? Phil Jagielka who is around the same age and caliber is being touted about in the 15-20 mill price bracket.
HazardsLeftPeg Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Juventus have really going all out with signings. I believe its like 11 or 12 already. And Marotta's now claiming there will be two more at least. Having spent so much already, maybe they are short on dough and hence looking at a loan deal. I hope we tell them where they can stick it. Alex has 2 years remaining btw, I think.
Shatner's Bassoon Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Makes no sense at all to me why we'd let Alex leave the club. We need 4 centre-halves in case of injuries/suspensions etc and having only JT, Iva and Luiz leaves us too light. Why let Bruhma go out on loan if we intended letting Alex go?
Pride of London Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 He's 29, if we get paid over the odds and get a young talented replacement with bags of potential we could sell him... oh wait we've got Luiz, and maybe Rajkovic
Zeta Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Good player, but the most expendable of our 4 centre backs. If we succeed in getting a WP for Rajkovic then we'd have him as cover, if not I'd still be relatively happy if it was Terry, Luiz, Ivanovic and Chalobah. Since we have 2 right backs, meaning Ivan could move to the centre if Terry/Luiz were out.
Scott Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 (edited) I read that Alex wants to move to some little club in Turin. Why I don't know. Edited August 20, 2011 by Scott
