I was merely referring to what has been the case for the last few years and its a testimony to how the two clubs have moved in the last decade or so. For sure you have made some good signings and most of them happen to be British talent but to think of it none of them would be close to being tagged as a marquee signing. Does that say something? On the other hand we are likely to sign Mata and possibly Modric in the next few days. Between the players you've signed and we are likely to sign I know which bunch I'd be picking. How these players fare is something that we'll discover over the course of the season.

I was thinking on similar lines but given Mikel's inconsistency and limited contribution in attack I have my reservations about him being used only in big games. The lad had a good game today but its for him to sustain it over a period of time.

Would be interesting to see how we setup with Mata and Modric (if it happens) in the team. My guess is we may have to sacrifice a pure DM role.

I wouldn't rule out anything Spiller, they lost Jose, Ricardo, Paulo and Deco in one season. Porto seems to be one of those clubs that live with the fact that they are likely to loose talents to bigger European clubs. Where they continue to flourish is buying player within the league or scouting in South America to find some real talents.

Thanks for the greetings and I must admit your one optimistic individual to believe we are both competing for the 3/4 spots. A look at last two years table should tell the gap is still the same if not got bigger. If that's not good enough look at the trophies that we have competed in the last 2 years as compared to yours. The pundits and the rest of world were harping on the same point when we were fifth at one point. We went on a great run and almost pushed United for it till the game at OT, if you believe we aren't in the title race you need a reality check. I'd buy Ramires in August anyday over Henderson in June. Why would you make drastic changes to a team that just finished runners up in the league? We have certain areas that needs improvement and if our targets come through (which they generally do) I don't see us having problems in challenging for the league. On the other hand if I was in your position I'd be worried about the signing that Spurs seem likely to make from Modric sale proceeds. Cheers and I look forward to the game against you lot.

I have come across some great reviews about how good this game is and the trailer is actually impressive. Comparisons have been drawn with GT series, I know that could be a little over the top. Before I buy this one I would like to know if any of you have played this one and your thoughts.

I mentioned it in one of my earlier posts that we were interested in him last summer and when he dint arrive then was when I gave up on him. His wage demands were too high for us and if we did meet his demands our wage structure would have gone beyond repair. Of course that has no bearing on your arguement and you continue to believe we should have signed him. You dont need a game console to play those games. Genius !!

Its easy to get frustrated but paying 35 million on an untested player like Neymar would be a huge gamble for any club. As Hutch says it makes absolutely no sense financially to pay Aguero's wages or a fee of 35 million and above for a player yet to set foot on European soil. Needless to say I blame Fifa 11/ Football manager for creating the fantasies that most fans seem to carry every season.

The ones that have tipped United as the team to beat have surely played it safe and that's understandable. The ones that have tipped City for the title are the ones that would be the laughing stock come May 2012.

Surprised to see the pessimism around here regarding missing out on him. To be honest if it were not for his wages we would have had him last summer, his wages were a big obstacle and its not a case of us being outbid by City. Its not the end of the world but surely we have missed on a gem.

Dont think he will relive the form that saw him flourish at Rovers. In fact what amazes me is none of the players (Bentley, Santa Cruz and Bellamy) from the Rovers team that was managed by Hughes actually made an impact once they moved on.

Agree with Rahul on this one, if Mikel hasn't established himself in 5 years its anyone's guess as to how long it could take for Romeu. He is likely to get game time in cup games and during the ACON, if Barcelona decide to recall him based on those games then he must be some player. For now I am only looking forward to see him play and what he could offer in the next two years.

For starters he is younger and cheaper in terms of wages. He is a proven player in the league and the risk of transition is minimal, sum all of this up and you have the reason why we are interested in Modric over Sneijder. Needless to say we don't fancy his wages or the possibility of winning a bidding war against City.
