I'm quite happy for us to be underdogs. To be honest, not many pundits were going to go with us considering AVB is unproven in the Premiership, but I have a sneaky feeling that we are going to be better than most people expect this season, and will push United all the way.

Worst case scenario - We win nothing (Maybe a domestic cup) but manage to integrate McEachran, Romeu, Lukaku and Sturridge into the squad, then we will already be in a much better place to move some older players on next season before the likes of Piazon and Courtois come in.

Anyways, THIS SEASON - Also alot still depends on who we still may sign. I'd imagine, for example, that alot of them would change their tune if we managed to get Modric.

Besides, who reads into these too seriously? Most pundits had Liverpool to win the league last time around....

I dont think we should take that too personally. They won it last year, by a fair number of points, and since then they have added very good qualitiy players to an already complete squad. AVB is a huge change for us, but he is completely unknown to anyone in England and it would be a serious reach to assume his arrival would put us over the top.

I too like being underdogs. I also like how half of them have gone after our squad for being too old. Where have I heard that before? Ahh, yes, from red nose before we took the title from his team a year ago.

Also, Bright's assertion that Gerrard, REina, Suarez and Carroll would walk into any team in the league:  Reina, almost. Suarez, possibly. But the other two: its not 2008, and 35 million does not make a world class stirker.

Not too worried, United deserve to be favourites given their victory last season. I am comfortable about the season, not concerned if we don't win as long as we start to integrate some of our younger players and begin to make the transition we will have to make over the next little bit.

Of course if we do win that'd be magnificent as well.

BTW Who is Mark Bright kidding?

here's another idiot, who clearly likes ramming his tongue up utd's arse...he's done a best team of past 20 years of premier league and no chelsea player makes it...well zola gets a place on the bench...funnily enough utd are well represented with 8 out of 11 players...bizarrely he writes for a london paper...actually makes sense...writes for their fanbase

I know I'll get slaughtered for this but I think they are all spot on.

Right now, as things stand , we've got 3rd written all over us.

It says something about the evening standard that they are rated even lower than the mirror or the mail. Absymal news source, and whats with that photoshop job? Looks like a 10 year old did it.

Nemanja Vidic is the best starting CB for the last 20 years? Puh-f**king-lease. Ferdinand and Terry both deserve it far ahead of him. And David Seaman or Pires would never make that bench. I can think of a dozen more deserving players than Pires

I don't actually see us as title favourites but that's not the point. There was a similar survey on Sky the other day in which every single one of their "experts" had Man U down as clear favourites. Some agreed with Mark Bright, not that Liverpool would win the league but that we were favourites to drop out of the top four.

I seriously couldn't give a toss about any of that lot. Let the likes of Roy Keane preach their spiteful inventions about dressing room unrest, let Aldridge vent his bitter twisted spleen on Torres. Let them write us off as an "aging squad in freefall".

f**k the lot of 'em.

Well I must admit, I have to agree. We haven't made the signings in the areas that we needed and was so apparant last season. I think if we get this playmaker that we have been so desperate for and a decent wide player my outlook maybe different.

But I think this could just be a season when we are in transition. I like what I see from AVB already and I know he knows what type of players he feel he needs. I have also been impressed with players like Josh, Sturridge and Bertrand and I'm sure they will play a major part in our future. if we win the PL it will be down to the players hard work and AVB and the coaching staff.

I will be hoping like any Chelsea fan that we get off to a good start and sustain it, unlike last season when we "had our bad moment".

That is the assessment now. I'd say ManU is the strongest, then us and City, then the others. The season will show how it goes. Why get so mad? We got 71points with the squad we have now last season so why should the expectations of 'neutral' people be more positive. Also we have a new boss whose age factor everyone questions. Us being 2nd or 3rd is about right in every meter. But I think we still have the surprise factor.

Anger? I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not angry at all. Like I said, I don't give a toss about any of that lot. Mark Bright is an idiot, most of the rest think: Man U Champions, Man U favourites. That's as far as it goes. When we won the league it was the same: Chelsea Champions, Chelsea favourites. In general the opinions presented by these "experts" can be dismissed as lazy and stupid.

So I'll say it again. f**k 'em all.

Ian Cheeseman, Steve Wyath, Sam Lyon...I haven't even heard of half these people. 'Expert' opinions are as fallible as anyone else's, I wouldn't take much notice of them. At the start of 04-05 a load of pundits predicted Arsenal would be too strong for us and look what happened there. It'll just make it all the more enjoyable if we prove them all wrong again.

I don't see what the problem is, it's just an opinion.

I think most of them are pretty much spot on. Bright and a few others a bit off the mark but BBC is a pro-Liverpool biased organisation so I don't see how people could expect any different.

judging a title winner at this point is well pointless. Mainly manure because they won it last year and have spent more(same for city) so judging teams before a balls been kicked is pure speculation. BUT having seen a few 'pundits' put liverpool 3rd or 4th is a joke and man city above us is well umm definatly stupid. 3 wins off the title even when we looked stale at times and conceding less than united cant be ignored.

Having said that as things CURRENTLY stand I think we will push united all the way in all competitions, ADD a couple top, Top additions and I think we will romp the league, get to atleast the semi in CL and Final in FA cup.

At this moment it is probably about right. Our signings are for the future and not strengthening the team on the whole for the campaign ahead, add to that the loss of Essien , transfer of Zhirkov , we are arguably weaker at present than last season. We do now have a new manager though that could counterbalance this, Sunday will be interesting as Stoke really gave it to us at their place last year and we only just scraped the draw... will our manager be able to get the extra 10% out of our team neccesary for us to challenge? My heart says we can be champions the head tells me we are short in certain areas still and 3rd is poss the best we will achieve.

I've actually found news wise it's quite good, nowhere near as many bizarre transfer links as the tabloids like mail and mirror run etc...but this guy seems way off the mark

I have a feeling we will win mid-table and lower table teams with a good percentage but the title challenge comes down to Utd and City games. It'll be very close this season again.

Agree, the only thing that is clear crap is the Liverpool winning the league selection.

City have the talent to best us this season, but they're quickly developing an Arsenal tack of team work and ability to fall apart at the worst moment.

The amazing thing about this season is the ridiculous amount of unknowns. Will Aguero run rings around everyone and be the spark that City need to mount a decent title bid? Will De Gea crumble under the high expectations of Fergie in the United net? Will AVB create fortress Stamford Bridge and bring the senior players back to their best? Will Arsenal have enough players to field a starting 11?

Can. Not. Wait.
