No, not really.

He's inconsistent on a scale that would make Walcott feel embarrassed. He constantly tries fancy tricks when they're not needed and lacks end product. He's like Kalou, but he looks fancy when he's falling over the ball.

Disagree, His performances for us, Which were limited, 2 or 3 i believe, were not that bad.

Against Hull he nearly scored

and in the FA Cup against Coventry he directly assisted the second goal... and that was all she wrote.

he used to be a phenomenal talent but whenever he moved to a bigger club he flopped. Great at sporting, crap at barca, great at porto, crap at inter. There was probably a reason that a footballing genius such as hiddink gave him no game time. Very glad he didnt come permanently the club

I was a bit disappointed for him that he never really got a chance here. But Guus never so fit, so no complaints from me. He was actually better than Ronaldo at Sporting. Too bad he turned into the show-pony that I hoped Ronaldo would be. Maybe if he had been better managed, cause the talent was certainly there.

I too had very high hopes when he came here. Very high. Thought that if Hiddink had stayed, with the attacking verve his teams had shown in the past, he might have a chance to shine here. But I guess there was a reason Guus was never playing him.

It was damned frustrating to see a player that many regarded as more talented than C. Ronaldo wind up like he did. I guess he isnt even 28 and there is still time for a late revival, but that seems increasingly unlikely.

We do need a winger in his mould though. Or two. DeBryune, Hazard, or Turan. Then again AVB seems likely he wants to go narrow and stick with the hybrid outside players we already have.

Enormously inconsistent, poor attitude. These were the reasons Hiddink kept him in the reserves.

He was reasonably promising in the couple of times he did play, and the type of player he is at his best, is what we need. Sadly he is rarely that player.

I personally feel that the winger we need probably should be right footed and capable of playing on both flanks, although of course a left footed player of exceptional talent could work as well. Movement off the ball should be key.

Of the real high class wingers left available there is probably only Mata, Gotze and Hazard still left. Hulk is out of our price range and the others have moved on. I'd be pretty doubtful of our ability to get any of those three.

The others who aren't quite at that level are perhaps more squad players but could provide an option off the bench. I'd say of those there are still Reus from Gladbach who is a cheaper and more hard working alternative to Marin from Bremen, who is a great dribbler but lacks the final ball. He'd still be a decent option off the bench. Farfan from Schalke is a bit similar. I don't mind Chris Brunt from West Brom either, who is better than people think but signed a new contract. Another young option is Albrighton from Aston Villa, but he might be a couple of years away from being where we need him to be.

As you can see, the options are narrowing pretty rapidly. I think the odds of us getting a top class winger are pretty low. Which makes Turan going to Atletico this morning for virtually nothing even more annoying. We will probably have to lower our sights to one of the more incomplete players if we get one at all.

Just about every other players improved when Guss took over that season, apart from this dude. He barely played a game, so his quality is still unknown.Where is he now? last time I heard Inter got rid of him.

Just to throw a random name in the picture, what about Jarvis from Wolves? Home grown, reasonably fast, able to put good cross in. Of course he's no where near the Chelsea starting 11 standard. But the guy will improve, Drogba, Lukaku will benefit from somewhere who run the touchline and put in accurate early crosses.

Didnt Hiddink drop him coz in the Hull game he lost the ball and just let the defender go straight past him? Im sure it was something like that. Im sure i heard that Hiddink went mental at him and he didnt play for the first team again after that.

I use to love to watch this guy, his tricks were outstanding BUT thats about it really, he is just a show pony. I think if he had a Mouriniho early on in his playing days then maybe he would have become a great player. Jose did it for Cole. Saying that Jose did have him at Porto and kept sending him out on loan.

I also wonder just what david bentley's situation is.. can that kid make a comeback or not..

Dont think he will relive the form that saw him flourish at Rovers. In fact what amazes me is none of the players (Bentley, Santa Cruz and Bellamy) from the Rovers team that was managed by Hughes actually made an impact once they moved on.

Please no, not the return of a Quaresma thread. He was awful for us. He would do nothing 97% of the time he was on the pitch then pull one decent cross out and for some bizarre reason some people that was enough for him to merit a permanent contract. He was probably found his level in the Turkish league and that is where he should be left.

If you're going to talk about bringing players back (and in particular wingers) I'd much rather we went for Scott Sinclair. No I'm not seriously suggesting that we put in a bid for him, just making the point that I'd pick Scotty over Queresma any day of the week.

Shame we didn't have a buy back clause for that one.

I would still pick Frank Sinclair over Queresma.

I think the point here is the fact we are 'still' looking for 'that' winger and we have been since we sold Duff and Robben.

Perhaps we should have kept SWP !

The wingback Pereirra we are allegedly looking at, has good delivery and would do a job for us ..... just hope someone realises that everything doesnt have to come from down out leftside, a wide right player/wingback would be nice.

TBH i would have anyone ahead of Malouda, dont think i can take another season of him shooting from over 30 yards out, not trying to beat anyone and constantly drifting to the center
