Music cover versions - where the cover improves the original
Ah, but Blondie were much easier on the eye - well, at least Debbie was Just checked to see if I had Toots' version of Country Roads, and I'm listening to it now! Great version, even if he did take a few liberties with the lyrics Love Susan Cadogan's 'Hurt So Good'! I've got her album 'Doing It Her Way', which has cover versions of 'Imagine', 'I Say A Little Prayer', 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow', 'Swinging On A Star', 'Something' & 'I Can See Clearly Now' I haven't played it for many a year, and am a bit nervous about playing it now - not too sure what to expect The Wailing Wailers - they of 'Bredda Gravalicious' fame? I'd much appreciate a copy of 'What's New Pussycat' - I'm already cringing in anticipation You're too kind, Kev Strange enough I did notice that, and I applaud the effort

Would they be in your ultimate fighting team?
What a pair of w*nkers! That was like watching a couple of 8-year olds fighting The commentator was even worse, comparing them to Muhammad Ali "I wanna see some windmilling!!!"

Disagree with you on the following: - I'd Rather Go Blind - as I stated before, the reasons for me preferring the Rod Stewart version are personal. Hit The Road Jack - I love the Ray Charles version, but I'm a big fan of Big Youth The Tide Is High - I just don't like John Holt as a singer - think it was his version of 'Help Me Make It Through The Night' that put me off him Agree on most of the others - I just played both versions of Stand By Me, and have to admit that, on reflection, I prefer Ben E.King's version. The Isley Brothers version of 'Shout' is an all-time classic, and Lulu should have been taken out and shot for even thinking about singing it. I also love reggae, but while I agree that there are a lot of good reggae cover versions of songs, there are some bloody awful ones around too. D.Dennis singing 'My Way', The Jubilees 'Out Of Reach' and Susan Cadogan's 'In The Ghetto' to name but a few. Anyway, musical taste is a very personal thing, and can be influenced by any number of things. Just as well really, otherwise we'd all be listening to the same songs all the time! The important thing to remember is, my musical taste is impeccable and the rest of you don't know what the f*ck you're talking about And to think I was going to give you my collection of 45's for your jukebox

Terry admits Charge!
Bryan Robson and Beckham also got away with a hell of a lot when they were England captains - should be interesting

Terry admits Charge!
I'm wondering if maybe JT isn't as close to a return as he's been made out to be, and so the club have decided to get the ban out of the way while he's still injured

Happy Days for Bluebeard - Le Guen Quits/Sacked
If those quotes are genuine, then he can f*ck right off! I'd rather we signed Steven Pressley, at least his heart would be with the Gers.

Another Meandering Morality Play (for Loz)
Excellent stuff

Movies and all it includes
Don't despair, I haven't seen Shindler's List either, and have no plans to see it. Usual story - great book, disappointing film. The only good thing about the film is that it features the lovely Jodie Foster Love Clockwork Orange - watched it three times before it was banned. It was released about the same time as Get Carter, Soldier Blue, Straw Dogs, Dirty Harry & The Godfather - a classic era!

It was 7 actually! Jukebox got 5 of em ! We beat someone 7-2 in the old Second Division back in 1979/80 too - I remember being in the ladies' loo when the 7th went in! Can't for the life of me remember who it was but it may have been Sheffield United. One of the old boys will surely remember. We won 7-3 at Orient that season, is that the one you're thinking of? Lee Frost (who?) got a hat-trick!

I'm afraid that choice was a purely personal one - Rod Stewart's version brings back a lot of memories, most of which can't be recorded within this sacred sanctum, if you get my drift.

Diarra dropped for being late
That's why I used the word 'If' - twice

If that's true, then it looks as though he's been taking advice from Gallas. If so, then he can f*ck right off as well.

Rod's first four solo albums were all excellent. When I got my first wage packet, I went out and bought my first ever album, 'Never A Dull Moment' - liked it so much I bought 'Every Picture Tells A Story' the following week 8) Also loved the Faces albums, they were the first band I ever saw play live, at Sutton Granada in December '73 whats going on? the first Album I bought was never a dull moment and followed I cant remember in what order by Every picture tells a story, Pinups and alladin sane. I still like Rods later Atlantic Crossing, and even Human albums in fact I like most of his stuff but the early ones were best. Weird After the two Rod Stewart albums, I think my next ones were 'Deep Purple In Rock', 'Bandstand' by Family, and 'Fire And Water' by Free. I didn't buy any Bowie albums till I was a bit older - didn't like all the make-up and poncy outfits he wore Once I grew up a bit I ignored all the hype, and just enjoyed his music - well, some of it! There was very little of Rod Stewart's stuff that I liked after The Faces split, just the occasional track like 'Tonight's The Night' or 'I Don't Wanna Talk About It'. Oh, and 'Ole Ola'

I never forgave Rod for leaving the Faces, though to be honest, Ronnie Lane had already left by then. ! Didn't Ronnie Wood leave to join the Stones before Rod Stewart left (and the band folded)? Ronnie Lane left first, to be replaced by Tetsu Yamauchi from Free. It was only a matter of time before the band split, governed mainly by the different contracts they had - The Faces at Warner Brothers, and Stewart's solo stuff at Mercury. Ronnie Wood guested for the Stones at a few of their gigs but couldn't officially join them until The Faces had officially split. All very messy - and depressing if you were a Faces fan like myself

I was just thinking the same thing. Lamps with a hattrick, Mikel with his first goal(?) for Chelsea, Sweepy with his 2nd(?) for Chelsea and then Riccy with a goal. 5 goals from midfielders and one from a defender. Yet Sheva is still without a goal. Though he did sort of set up Lamps third goal didn't he? He got a penalty and got the keeper sent off. That's good of him I know Lamps was on a hat-trick, but I reckon he should have let Sheva take the penalty - might have done his confidence the world of good - if he'd scored, that is

I never forgave Rod for leaving the Faces, though to be honest, Ronnie Lane had already left by then. Rod Stewart's 5th solo album 'Smiler' wasn't a patch on his earlier stuff, though it did contain the excellent single 'Farewell'. It all went downhill from there...... And Chippy - did you have to remind me of those leopard-skin strides Best thing about that performance was Kenny Everett ripping the piss out of him with his JFH-like arse!

Mainly written by Johnny Marr I have it on good authority that Kirsty did some decent doodles, and some excellent colouring in. Who's Johnny Marr, anyway? Did you see the documentary over Christmas showing the making of that song? If not, I recorded it - could send you a copy.

What???? You obviously don't remember the classic 'There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis' Mind you, I quite liked 'Walking Down Madison' and her Christmas song with the Pogues.

I'm listening to TalkSport, as the main game on 5Live is Doncaster v Bolton It's not commentary on TalkSport, but they keep giving reports from the game. Apparently the rain has been torrential all day, and the ball is starting to stick. Some challenges have been a bit iffy because of the conditions, with defenders sliding in for a tackle and skidding past Earls Court. We've just got a penalty apparently. Macclesfield keeper sent off, no keeper on the bench!

Maybe you haven't heard the version that I like by Joan :muuusic: I suppose it just goes down to a question of taste - something I've got, but you clearly haven't Ah, I like Kirsty! Wasn't sure whether to include 'A New England' - I know Bragg wrote it, but can't remember whether he released a version. Not surprising really, if anything by the left-wing git gets played in my presence I just filter it out

if nothing else they get my vote for the finest name in rock and roll history Surely that title should go to 'Throbbing Gristle'?
