  2. Remember the Wimbledon v Leeds match at Selhurst well, it was a replay after a draw in Leeds. Wimbledon were in the Southern League then, but the match was a sell-out. The Leeds mob came down expecting very little opposition, only to be confronted by a large mob of Chelsea and Millwall. Needless to say, the Leeds mob took a hiding and got ran everywhere after the game, great fun!
  3. Don't know about now, but in the 70's there were loads of Chelsea from Kennington, the Elephant, Stockwell, and surrounding areas, plus the more obvious places like Battersea, Wandsworth, Fulham, Mitcham, Tooting & Clapham. Slough and Reading were also Chelsea strongholds, Basingstoke was another. For some strange reason there were lots of Arsenal fans in Croydon and Bromley back then, no idea why.
  4. ...and Newcastle Brown bottles were so aerodynamically pleasing!
  5. Always liked a bit of S &N up west, oohhhhh matron!!! :-)
  6. Drank a fair few pints of Fuller's in my time, that ESB was definitely falling over water! Loved Dry Blackthorn, used to drink so much I'd sometimes wake up next morning with orange lips, and I'd get stuck into the black stuff when I was in the mood. Speaking of dodgy lagers, does anyone remember Saxon, sold in Young's pubs many years ago? Absolute piss it was, no wonder their bitter's were so popular! A lIght & bitter was 13p when I started drinking in 1971/72, hardly ever see anyone drink it now.
  7. I was thinking of local pubs, initially, only found S & N pubs up west. McEwans and Tartan were great, and I loved a bottle of Newcastle Brown or twelve. I didn't discover Fuller's pubs till a bit later, again, none in my local area. It was a while before I developed a taste for real ale and took advantage of the local Young's pubs. I'm developing quite a thirst for some reason...
  8. Watney's Red Barrel was awful, my favourite tipple in the early 70's was Double Diamond. Not a strong beer by any means, probably just as well considering I was 14 when I acquired a taste for booze. Long Life was another good beer, and Courage Best, mmm...

Having big problems selecting my top ten live albums, gonna have to leave out at least 20! I'm gonna cheat a bit by not duplicating any of BF's selection, i.e. Made In Japan, Live At Leeds, Irish Tour '74, and Folsom Prison, all of which would have made my top ten otherwise... Free - Free Live AC/DC - Got Blood If You Want It Jimi Hendrix - Hendrix In The West Allman Brothers - At The Fillmore East Lynyrd Skynyrd - One More From The Road Humble Pie - Performance, Rockin' The Fillmore Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Live MC5 - Kick Out The Jams Janis Joplin - In Concert Hawkwind - A Space Ritual

I was there at Knebworth in the pouring rain too. I've been a Purple fan since the early 70's, and never dreamed I'd get a chance to see the Mk.II line-up, but boy was it worth it! Superb show, considering the conditions, and a good support - UFO, Blackfoot, Mountain and the Scorpions were great, but Meatloaf wasn't much cop. Spent the day drinking with a gang of bikers from Wales, brilliant day out.
  11. Is the stadium on the site of the old Gay Meadow? Hope so, I hate to think of that geezer in his boat losing his livelihood having no balls to rescue from the river...
  12. I think my grandad may have been there in the North Stand on the lookout for gooners, resplendent in his cloth cap and smoking a Woodbine, swinging his rattle in one hand and a two pound claw-hammer in the other
  13. Thanks for posting these reports, BF, they're much appreciated.
  14. To Bonetti's left is Marvin Hinton, to his right is John Mortimore (I think, before my time)
  15. If there was a 'colour clash' in a cup game, sometimes both teams played in their away kits, happened at the Bridge a few times. No idea who Venables was yelling at!
  16. Yeah, I should have mentioned I was talking about the early 70's in my post, hardly ever went in there after that - much more fun in the North Stand :-)
  17. Old Bill always stood in that gangway no matter who we were playing. I'm guessing that their explanation was that fans would use the gangway to watch the match from, but the truth is more likely to be that it was easier and quicker to nick lads for no reason when the cops got bored. F*ck Bilko and his merry men!
  18. Yet again Ferdinand reminds us what a total c*nt he is
  19. "Eccles" seemed to be painted on a hell of a lot of walls near the ground in the late 60's

  23. Sadly, reggae legend Hopeton Lewis died yesterday. His best known song was "Take It Easy", one of the earliest rocksteady recordings. R.I.P.
  24. I was at that match too, what a game
  25. That semi final at WHL was great, huge Chelsea turnout totally filled the Paxton end. When Alan Hudson scored a fluke goal in the last minute we went absolutely mental, we were in the League Cup Final! Unfortunately we lost to Stoke at Wembley, but the two games against Tottenham were superb. I was also at the Brighton match, what a day out!
