World Cup 2026
I agree he has ultimately failed. I just disagree with the notion that it is all his fault and its as simple as making attacking changes to change the defend first mentaltiy that largely came about cause everyone was fatigued.

World Cup 2026
I am well aware Tuchel has been defensive in the past however I am focusing entirely on this game and not letting previous things cloud my judgement. I believe it because it's what I saw play out. I did not see Tuchel instructing the players to sit back as soon as they scored, nor did he change the system to facilitate that. Tuchel said it wasn't the plan. Guehi and Kane both commented on how the team sat back straight after scoring and how it was a mentality issue. You can argue its the manager's job to change that mindset and instill confidence to attack but it's extremely difficult to change that mentality once it has already sunk in, better managers than Tuchel complain about the team sitting too deep against their wishes on a weekly basis in leagues around the world. It's not a light switch you can just turn on and off. He realised it wasn't going to change after getting pinned back for like 20 mins after scoring so did what was best from what he had available to help the team defensively. Like I've said multiple times now, the only issue with his subs was that he didn't take Kane off for another striker which resulted in every ball forward coming back to us instantly with no room to breathe and reorganise the defence.

I think the only mistake he made was keeping Kane on. He could have done the same exact subs but with Watkins on to replace Kane and we would have looked much better with an outlet.

World Cup 2026
Tuchel reacted to what was already happening with his subs. He basically said "Alright, if you are going to sit back and defend against my wishes then let's get on some extra defenders to help" You can argue he should have tried and forced a response from the team with more attacking subs but ultimately everyone in midfield was dead on their feet and Kane was like playing with 10 men. You would have to replace pretty much everyone to stand a chance at changing the defend first mentality.

Well not the second one, no. Spence had a slight injury so couldn't get out to him and I think it was Rodgers who didn't even attempt to press as he was tired.

Where did you see that? Interview I saw from Guehi seems to suggest that the players retreated straight after scoring and was a mental thing, long before Tuchel even made any changes.

Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
I think even if he was amazing the odds of you admitting it would be extremely low.

World Cup 2026
I am surprised to see so many ex players and ex managers blaming Tuchel for this result. They of all people should know it's not easy to change players mentality once they have already decided to sit back and defend for whatever reason. Players were all gassed, clear as day to see, so after we scored the players retreated and sat back. This wasn't an instruction from Tuchel evident by the fact that he kept the same system. If he wanted us to defend straight after he would have changed it straight away. I blame him for keeping Kane on even when he was clearly gone which resulted in us having no out ball but everything else was in response to what the players had already been doing.

Result was disappointing of course but I don't believe Tuchel told them to sit after scoring. Virtually every player in midfield was gassed. You could see it. Kane was done by the 50-60th min. Unless you replace most of the midfield and Kane with subs its gonna be extremely difficult to go against the natural instinct to sit deep. He went for the most logical option given what was available which is an extra defender seeing as the team had already decided to sit back. The part where he made a mistake in my opinion was not taking off a clearly gassed Kane off for fresh legs on counter.

Granit Xhaka
The only issue I have is the fee but otherwise fully agreed.

Xabi Alonso - New Chelsea Manager
United brought in Lammens and have been fine. For a season with no europe I am more than happy going into the season with Penders as number 1, problem is I doubt Sanchez would accept being number 2 and don't think I would want him around as 2nd anyway, whenever he doesn't play he often comes in and drops clangers even more regularly.

Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
I would expect the imbalance to improve but this would be largely down to Alonso being a better manager rather than a lack of Enzo. We will see as you say.

Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
He's used further forward as he is the best option for that role at the moment, with emergency of players like Paz verdict is still out on if that will be his long term role. At Benfica, Luis did the Casemiro role and Enzo had the Kroos role. Kroos didn't sit either he would roam around. I think Potter went a bit too extreme having him being the sole defender like some sort of regista, he needs a proper DM doing the hard work besides him if he's going to be doing that Kroos or even Fabregas like role.

Malo Gusto to Chelsea
I like Gusto but he doesn't help himself at times. Like v Man City I actually thought he was fine but then he did some stupid pass to no one and they hit us on the counter. He's a squad player being forced to be a starter unfortunately.

Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
I don't see that quote as him saying he doesn't want to play as a 6, quite the opposite in fact as he later laments basically having to do two jobs. I still believe Enzo's best role is in that Kroos mold, as shown at Benfica, world cup, under Potter and Lampard briefly so I don't see it as "forcing" him in that role, it's just where he should be. I would argue this box crashing role he most likely wouldn't play at any other top club is us forcing him in.

Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
If he goes to Madrid he will go back to playing as a 6, in the same mold as Kroos. I'm still not sure why people on here keep repeating that he doesn't want to play as a 6, he has never said or implied this anywhere. Correct me if I am wrong. As for the Kroos comparison, neither were blessed with great speed but paired up with someone to do the hard work defensively it worked out fine.

Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
Really? Opinions on Ezno are always 50/50 among the ones I speak to

Joao Pedro
To be honest this is a very common thing outside of England, im pretty sure tapping up as defined by english rules doesnt even exist there. It'd only ever a problem when between 2 English clubs

Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
Playing as a CM in a slower league and in a dominant team like Madrid would not expose him
-
Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
In general? Very physical but not too rash in duels like Caicedo, great vision especially long balls in behind, solid defensively, would be a fantastic signing to be honest.

Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
Would have liked to see him under a proper manager like Alonso first, not to mention whoever we buy to replace will most likely be worse.
-
Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!
I think this is wishful thinking by the fan base. In regard to looking more balanced and rounded I think that's a no brainer considering Alonso is a much better manager and would happen even with Enzo in the team but I would hardly shed a tear if we did sell for £80mil+

Joao Pedro
Endrick has been one of Brazil's best players when he does play, scored v us too. Igor had barely played but took his chances when he did and scored, something Pedro has yet to do in more appearances. Neymar pick doesnt matter, whoever he replaced was never gonna play anyway. Might as well use that spot in the team for expirence/locker room leader type.
-
Joao Pedro
I think you missed the second part of my comment which was them playing well for Brazil and Pedro not.

Joao Pedro
None of those players are competing with Joao Pedro. It was a 2 out of 3 choice from Endrick, Igor Thiago and Joao Pedro. It's hard to argue for Pedro given the other 2 have been good for their clubs and also for the national team, which Pedro hasn't been.
