fillerywhereru got a reaction from The Rising Sun in Boxing Day down the years …My first Chelsea match was on Boxing day 1975 away at Orient-dont remember much other than seeing Maybank equalise , two pitch invasions and my uncle going on and on about how good Laurie Cunningham was.
A year later or so i thought i was one of the fabled 55003, it was actually on 27th i recently found out.
I went to an awful 0-0 V Bristol City but at least got to see Ossie play (actually 23rd i just realised), couple of years later i had to beg my dad to take me to see the same fixture-its bound to be a much better game i said...you guessed it 0-0 and no ossie...
A few years later i saw us beat leicester at home on a boxing day 1-0 with of course a Fillery goal
I remember a last minute equaliser at palace by i think le saux who had wound them up like crazy-touch of the le saux about gallagher actually
After several years of not going with my dad on boxing day in 2002 i persuaded him to come to the bridge for a game with southampton, he moaned like hell about the price (40 quid i think) but was impressed with the new bridge (his first time since the rebuild) and the exciting free scoring Chelsea of that season...decided to miss a hatful of chances and draw 0-0...keeping up the family tradition 🙂

fillerywhereru got a reaction from bluehaze in Boxing Day down the years …Was at that game right behind the goal at the North Stand. I remember trying to give Cantona some stick in sweary schoolboy french, at one point he gave me a bit of a glare...didnt think anything of it until a few weeks later he did more than that at Palace

fillerywhereru reacted to Peckham Blue in Boxing Day down the years …My first match v Arsenal 1967, then the Ipswich David Webb in goal one. Fulham and the 55,003, the taking of the Northbank and a couple of years later getting chased by Portsmouth all around Plough Lane after coming back from a morning KO at Southampton.

fillerywhereru got a reaction from erskblue in The clothing we wore to the football back then.Great thread this, as an old 80s soul boy/casual who happened to go to Chelsea as well I remember all of the clothes and trainers mentioned. It was a youth movement which the media vwas absolutely clueless about and it has allowed a lot of rubbish to be published about it in recent years. One myth is that scousers invented'' casual...well that just isnt true, therre were two looks for starters...1- the tennis brands (Fila, tacchini, ellesse etc) with bleached jeans and trainers and then there was 2-The soulboy casual look, Golf Jumpers farahs rollnecks worn with loafers for going out to clubs and discos and with bleached and frayed lois with trainers for football.
The scousers may well have popularised the 1st look that is true but the 2nd look probably pre dated it springing up originally from the soul crowd and before that the black lads who were involved with soundsystem battles etc and already wore elements of it (slacks and Gabicci knits).
There was a short time perhaps less than a football season when the two looks overlapped in London then it all moved on again with London lads moving on to more expensive gear like Armani, burberry aquascutum jaeger etc...than after a while the paninaro look crept in and it was all timberlands, chipie C17 and Best Company etc but what most people seem to regard as casual (look number 1) was over and done in London well before 1985. You can see it in the photos of that era that the look number 2 lasted far longer but as mentioned mutated into something else eventually.
Being over 50 it's hard to get away with tracktops these days but the polo /shirt/smart jumper with jeans and smart trainers is pretty enduring...viva la casuals...

fillerywhereru reacted to chi blue in Which conflictWas in there for both games, didn't notice that, mind you celery seemed to be everywhere, for the saints semi and Utd final the other year, the bouncers at the torch searched you and took celery away, saying you couldn't bring food into the pub, they then put it in pile by the wall, half an hour later using a distraction operation with a mate, we nicked the celery back, wouldn't mind if I was a 15 year old Herbert, but I'm 50 years old!!!

fillerywhereru reacted to forbzy in Which conflictI can remember an FA Cup game (4th round) against Liverpool at the Bridge in 1985-86 season. We lost 2-1 and had a lot of bad luck that day losing Dixon to a key injury that would ultimately play a big part in derailing our title challenge.
-
fillerywhereru reacted to strider6004 in Which conflictYep I was there too and thought exactly the same feeling that we would lose the replay.
Of course we won yet what followed was the shambles against Wednesday and I went up there too.
-
fillerywhereru reacted to chi blue in Which conflictYes, it was something like a 11:30am KO on a Sunday, and your right atmosphere was flat, nothing like a previous league cup semi final 6 years before at the bridge v Sunderland!!
-
fillerywhereru reacted to bluehaze in Which conflictThe semi final against Wednesday was such a weird day playing on a Sunday the atmosphere was flat and we played terrible. I'm convinced we would have won if it was midweek .
-
fillerywhereru reacted to chi blue in Which conflictSpurs at home league cup quarter final 0-0, 1991, le saux played out wide and ripped them apart, but we couldn't score, remember getting back from game and the first Gulf war had started! Went to second leg as well at white Hart lane, we totally out played them and won comfortably, only to f**k up v sheff Wednesday in semi final

fillerywhereru reacted to erskblue in Vintage Blues pictures and filmYeah it was Durie's debut and Les Fridge's only game for us.
Match programme cover.
-
fillerywhereru reacted to Boyne in Vintage Blues pictures and filmLes Fridge. Only played one game for us and that was in the 5-1 drubbing by Watford at the Bridge at the end of season 85-86. Durie's debut for us?

Barrett and Jeffries (11) as he punches clear from Chelsea striker Peter Osgood
