accuse me of sour grapes all you want, but has the guy actually had to make a save the past 13 games...every time i see united their defence and midfield is so compact teams aren't even getting any shots in...watched the hammers game today and he had nothing to do...everyone is going on about it being his record, but i'd say it's more to do with ferdinand, vidic etc and also a united side that are playing efficient rather than the so-called exciting football everyone in the media seems to rave about...dare i say they're boring...oh no, not utd...only chelsea were dull when they were winning the league with a tight defence

It isn't Van der Saar's record - it is the entire team's record. Same as it was with Chris Woods at Rangers, Cech with us etc. The best keeper in the world is always going to concede if the team in front of him (not just the defence) lacks quality, discipline and organisation.

If a team doesn't concede for 13 games it is damn impressive - it isn't there fault it is being portrayed differently by the media than it was when we were doing it.

I read some article about Van der Sar breaking the record and it said something that I thought was interesting. It said that recently the smaller teams haven't produced much offence against the bigger teams. So when Chelsea/Cech broke the record they actually had a much harder time defending since the opponents tended to attack more, especially the smaller teams. Nowadays they sit back more and instead of making an all out attack to score goals, they defend with every guy on the team and is content with a draw or else getting a goal on a counter attack.

I don't know if it's true, but reading what The Brit wrote it kinda fits, doesn't it.

Even so, not letting in a goal for such a long time is not a mean feat. It's very impressive. Strong defence and a really good keeper.

We had that once, not anymore

it is a disgrace tbh

van der sar is one of the dodgiest keepers in the league but he never has to do anything

in this situation utd really have turned attack into the best form of defence. every team is afraid to attack them, including us. i could have kept 13 clean sheets in a row in goal for utd as well

tho don't get me wrong, vidic has been outstanding as well

Completely not true. Van der Saar has always been one of the best in the Prem, even for Fulham and I attribute a lot of United's recent success with finally sorting out their goalkeeping position with him (after the Carroll, Bosnich, Barthez debacles).

On topic, fair play to United for not conceding in such a long time. I agree it is more down to their defense, but thats still clucking impressive.

i think your being very churlish there. hes not the dodgiest keeper in the league, not by a long shot. have you not seen scott carson play lately? the keeper does more than just save shots, a good keeper knows how to organise his defence and position them. he played a big part in beating our record and im big enough to say well done to them.

i said one of the dodgiest and i stick by it

he flaps at everything and his kicking is atrocious

i think if you stick any other keeper in the league in for those 13 games, most would come away with the 13 clean sheets

i'm big enough to commend vidic on his excellent work and he has been one of the best players in the world this year, certainly the best defender but van der sar is a poor keeper. i refuse to give him credit

Apparently, Red Nose, van Basten and every manager he has played for disagree with you. So do I.
