magoo
Just got back from an interesting game at Coventry. I say interesting because I found some of it enjoyable but most of it depressing. The enjoyable bits are (in no particular order): Cheap tickets Large CFC away followig Fairly noisy and decent variety of songs Professional performance and relatively comfortable win A new ground Beer served before the game & at half time inside the away end Stood up all game Celery The dominating depressing bits are as follows: A ground with no soul, no character and over stewarded Constantly being filmed and/or watched by police & stewards A ground in the middle of an industrial/retail park with only one "home" pub in the vicinity A scoreboard which informed you when it was a corner In ground music blasting out A prick on the PA getting loud & excited reading out the home team name by name A stupid 12.30 kick off for TV The FA cup sponsored by E-on Being told by fellow CFC fan on leaving ground that the semis are at Wembley. That f**ks up a weekend away at say Old Trafford/Cardiff and also dilutes Wembley being used for the final in my opinion. I could go on and on but these are initial thoughts as to why the game of football is nowhere near as much fun attending as it used to be. Thank you

bjd
To be fair though sometimes I shudder when I think about what some away fans must think when they come to the Bridge. we are guilty ourselves of a fair few things.
blizeH
So hang on, cheap tickets, large following, beer, allowed to stand for the entire game, comfortable win, and you're f**king moaning about the scoreboard and the guy on the PA? What? The only gripe I can semi see your point on is the semi being held at Wembley, which I agree dilutes the 'magic' of playing at Wembley. The rest? wtf. Stewartd7
sounds like the pa and the music were just trying to create atmosphere, also wembly for the semi is crap
sergeyMS
Be happy, wtf? Supporting in Russia is something special... Beer at stadium? You're joking... Overstuarded? Policemen at least.. Drunk teenagers, screaming 'Ref is a f*ck', fire devices, chairs flying in air and action in 100 metres from you, it means you must use spy-glass to enjoy, but beware a flying chair can hit from the back, so choose wisely. People simply unable to enjoy and applaud. And nothing to do, but in spring and autumm fields, fit for growing vegetables only... So I prefer home or sport-bar and dreaming to visit The Bridge. The Brit
i think the people on the pa are a sad blight on modern football and i include our own barnett on this one...firstly the fact they are there to 'create atmopshere' is embarassing in itself let alone by the way they actually do it...it's amazing how they all seem to have the same kind of voice...the tw*t at wembley talking at cup finals seems to be the standard which everyone goes for...all family friendly walt disney manufactured fun...pass me the sick bucket...or rather shut up so we can actually sing and cheer who and when we want and not under instruction
BLUENUT
A prick on the PA getting loud & excited reading out the home team name by name Have you been to the bridge lately?
magoo
Yes mate, I have been to the Bridge lately. It is sh*t moist of the time. But, at least we don't have a "Tesco stand". Has anyone got a time machine to go back 25 years?

Has anyone got a time machine to go back 25 years? I was refering to Neil Barnett - I often wonder what the away fans think of him. Let's hear if from the East Stand.......... and that song from the sponser from last couple of seasons - what the f*ck was that all about. The trouble with modern day football is there has to be a 'football experience', there has to be an atmosphere, even if the match doesn't warrant one. The atmosphere was ok but nothing to write home about Been to Ibrox a good few times and the atmosphere there used to blow you away. Not so much anymore When I'm at a match I enjoy belting out the tunes for 90 mins. I feel I haven't really added to the game if I don't go away with a sore voice. Opposing stadiums should be intimidating to go to but unfortunately Celtic Park :D seems to be the only place with an atmosphere anymore

Opposing stadiums should be intimidating to go to but unfortunately Celtic Park :D seems to be the only place with an atmosphere anymore A few years back Stamford bridge was so open with the away fans so far away, the Chelsea fans used to sing songs against each other because you couldn't hear the away fans no matter how loud they sung. We're the middle of the shed, We're the West side etc....... The thing is nowdays, if your at a game with an early kickoff, no pre-match drink, and still half asleep from Friday nights escapades I don't need a bloke pre-match telling me to whoopee and give him a cheer, I don't want to half the time. An atmosphere is something that happens, like the nervous tension in the last few minutes, the relief or joy of celebrating a goal, it cannot be manufactured by a man with a mike prematch or by someone playing a record at the final whislte. - this actually takes something away from the atmosphere in my experience and opinion. Celtic beat us 5-1 but the atmosphere was electric. It was fantastic trying to out sing 50,000 opposition fans

BLUENUT
If "modern football" is that bad why still come to games? I've been going Chelsea since I was about 3-4 years old, over 30 years now. I'm not going to stop cos some c*nt is on the pitch getting every stand to shout 'yeah' before the game, or because they plaay that sh*te premier league music, or the good-will hand-shake. *Shakes head in disbelief* I would rather voice my displeasure when they introduce this type of sh*t that's supposed to appeal to the masses, but make the club in question (whoever it maybe) look rather pathetic in an attempt to create someosort of football enviroment/atmosphere/day-out. Football was around years before the goodwill handshake, the champions league-esque music, the arsehole with mikes, the PA systems - big-screens, the records when a goal is scored, the record bang on the final whistle etc. and it'll be around alot long after these fads have been and gone and hopefully so will i. Barn
Some of these things led to me jacking it in a few years ago, I got so bored with the whole "football experience", PA systems inside grounds should be banned, how can fans chant if all they can here is some sh*te pop song being played over a speaker system that's loud enough to drown out 150,000 let alone 45,000. It's bollox but unfortunately every time someone like me stops going there's a whole posh family that just can't wait to jump onto the band waggon. As mentioned, I still go cos it's something I've done with my brother and my dad for the past 30 years and am still fortunate enough to afford Chelsea as a pastime (just about). But people like yourself Barn can never really be replaced, the fan base will become more diluted over the years until eventually the crowd or supporters will be refered to as 'the audience'
magoo
Excellent comments from "Bluenut" & "Barn". As a side issue I am chuffed with the 5.15 KO time for the semi. It obviously shouldn't be at Wembley but there will be an infinately better (natural) atmosphere than say a 12.30 Ko and I will get to have a decnt drink in the day.
