Barry in talks with Citeh

Barry just confirming its about the money, fair enough, most people take jobs because of the money. Will lose respect if he states it isn't that reason because Villa are a hell of a lot closer to achieving anything than Man City.

Fair play to him i guess, at least for his honesty.

But he is going to get absolutley slaughtered, not least because he has stated for so long he wanted to play Champions League football.

I think Villa reached their peak last season and still had a dissapointing finsih, with Larson going and now Barry, unless they really spend some major cash City will finsh way above them next season, and Barry knows this.

You may be right - but turning down Liverpool for Man City ? Its an insult to Villa fans (far be it for me to stick up for those twats) and the biggest example of choosing cash over sustained top level football i can remember.

Still, he can do what he wants, as long as he doesnt sign for us.

don't think villa have a great cl chance.

laursen retired, small squad... money there, sure, but their big chance was this season and they predictably fell woefully short.

city have the financial power to overtake them next season, which will leave them obviously better placed. also villa sickeningly gave up in the uefa cup, whereas city at least had a go.

while liverpool and arsenal do not bid, he only has the choice to stay or move sideways...but I think city will move ahead of villa in the near future.

I really dislike o'neill so that might colour my feelings, but I did enjoy seeing him spend £50m on the side that finished sixth only to finish...

sixth (with less points).

what a great manager he is.

Wow, didn't expect that!! I guess all the clubs are getting their business finished quickly, what with Carlo, Real Madrid's manager and now this in two days...It's gonna be a very interesting close season...hope Ronaldo goes to Real, so that we can reclaim our crown!

Plenty of players have moved to this club for the money (and the promise of CL football), and I have cheered them on, so I wont have a go at Gareth Barry for going to a 'project' who might be on the verge of something big. I think they will finish in a European spot next year, hopefully at Arsenal's expense.

As far as Villa goes, what they did this season was an achievement however it may have ended. If they had won that game against Stoke they threw away, it might have been a different story. But they gave Arsenal a big scare. Not as impressive as what Everton did to Liverpool in 2004, but impressive

Ha ha up yours Liverpool. Serves you right for forking out £20m on Keane last time and missing out on the player you really wanted.

yeah, but if they had made THAT move they wouldve been rid of Alonso, but we wouldve never had this

I doubt he will achieve much at Liverpool either, so good on him, be the man at Citech, not Stevie G's puppet! Man City will be a decent team next year. I can see the league becomes the big 3, then Arsenal, City, Everton etc battle out for the 4th spot next season.

AND, if after this Alonso does decide he'd rather leave Fat Rafa behind after his attempted sale last season, and bugger off to Real or Juve, then that will do some further damage to their plans for next season.

Fingers crossed...
