abramovich
Another highly rated English youngster? Fine with me. Chelsea are interested in Shelvey Chelsea have joined the race to sign Jonjo Shelvey, skysports.com understands. The Charlton Athletic midfielder is still only 17, but he featured regularly for The Addicks last season. A host of clubs have watched the England youth star in action, but it was Tottenham and West Ham who appeared to be leading the chase. However, it is now believed that Chelsea have entered the chase and made their interest known. It is understood Chelsea would be more than willing to allow Shelbey to return to The Valley on loan - something which appeals to the relegated Addicks. Indeed Shelvey could remain at Charlton for a couple of years before linking up with Chelsea. The Blues are understood to be keen to bolster their squad with young English talent and Shelvey certainly comes into that category.
Anders
As long we use them it's great to get young english players. If not it will be a waste of money!

mad_mac
Great, now we can have more press slamming us for robbing all other team's youth academy's...like they are doing with us and Sturridge
Lofty
Great, now we can have more press slamming us for robbing all other team's youth academy's...like they are doing with us and Sturridge The Arse have been doing the exact same thing for years, but only with even younger, non-English players from teams on the Continent. And Wenger is hailed as a genius. f**k 'em all.
mad_mac
believe me Lofty, the hypocricy is almost laughable. wenger does it and he's seen as having a nose for scouring the best deals of Europe. We do it and we're seen as the enemies of every youth academy in the land Scott

Randy36
I read where young Shelvey turned down an offer of 3.5 million quid to come to the Bridge. I have not seen the lad in action so I'm not in a position to comment on his potential. He probably made the correct decision as it's better to be a "big fish in a large pond than a minnow in the ocean" It will be interesting to see how things work out for the lad. The idea Chelsea is not good for giving young playersi opportunities is unacceptable. Granted before Roman arrived our youth program needed to be reviised. Now we have a number of young prospects making the limelight e.g. Mancienne, Stoch etc., So it's not surprising why Sturridge opted to sign for us. I'm really surprised at some of the criticism directed at Arnesen. I have not been disappointed with the majority of players he brought in.
