Not sure about the present team, maybe Kenwynne Jones. Past , Dennis Tueart was a class act maybe Vic Halam too

Jim Montgomery from the past. Unlucky to play at the same time as some other great keepers otherwise would have got a few caps under his belt. From the current squad I'd go for Kenwynne Jones who I think has a great future if he really puts his mind to it

Kieran Richardson. I think he's got a real spark in him and has a fantastic shot. He could do well as a super sub for us, really. Especially in some of those games at home when opposition closes shop.

Present Sunderland - to be honest none at all. I don't think there is anyone in the team that would make our squad notably stronger. Before we signed Turnbull I might have said we could take Gordon as a back up goalkeeper and maybe before we signed Zhirkov then McCartney might have been useful as a reserve left back. Personally I think Kenwyne Jones is over rated so I wouldn't be interested in him.

In terms of past players I suppose the obvious choice based on the club's history is Charlie Hurley however he was before my time so I am only basing that on his reputation amongst SAFC fans. Tough to really pick any that would be good enough for our current squad - in fact I don't really think I can so if I am just picking one player then I might go for someone like Frank Gray although his best years were not with Sunderland.

Of Sunderland's current squad, I think Malbranque is very underrated and could definitely add something to a top 4 side. If potential is factored in, I would take Cattermole. I think he is an excellent signing for Sunderland, and with the right grooming could be a very good player in a few years.

Agree Westway - I think he could be one of the signing's of the season, he had an excellent game for Wigan at the bridge last season.

With our midfield I'm not sure we'd want him, but he's one for the future for sure!

He was still very younf when he left Sunderland to return to Scotland. Maybe not young in terms of the modern day when people seemto think they should be first team regulars by the age of 20 but certaily young in those more realistic days!
