Carlo Ancelotti believes it is unlikely he will be adding to his squad any further before the end of the transfer window.

The Italian, who secured the services of Serbian international midfielder Nemanja Matic this week, is convinced he already has a squad strong enough to compete for major honours despite the narrow misses of recent seasons.

This, coupled with the return to form and fitness of experienced figures like Deco, makes additions seem unnecessary.

'The book is closed. We have to wait one week but the book is closed now. I am a coach and my responsibility is for the technical area. The club gave me a very good team with very good players, we didn't need other players,' the manager explained. 'If we take another player the club was ready to [spend] money.

'I want to say that the club supported me if I wanted to take other players. There was not a problem for sure, but we wanted to take players we need. This is a competitive squad in all positions, we have good defenders, midfielders and fantastic strikers.'

Ancelotti was keen to stress the importance of Deco, who had been linked with a summer move to Inter.

'I think Deco stays here because he would like to stay. For us he is an important player because he has very good quality in the midfield and he is happy.

'Now he is not injured, he trained very well and started with good motivation and worked hard,' he continued. 'He didn't play too much because with players over 30 years you have to take the right control, and he stays well. We want to maintain the situation for a long time. He has great quality and thinks before the ball arrives, and always takes the right decision.'

He has said it before and Ancelotti reiterated his view that we only need to take 'a little step' to win some major silverware.

'I think with these players we can win because if we manage to do a little step we can win with the same players. To win the Champions League you have to be a little bit lucky,' he said.

'I want and will do my 100 per cent to put my quality for the players and the team. I think that to do a little step you have to put our quality in every [game]. We cannot be afraid to play, we want to go and play our game.'

Boasting a squad already bursting with quality, Ancelotti will be able to add two more names to his training list next week, as he explained long-term injury casualties Joe Cole and Paulo Ferreira are due to return to first team sessions.

'Joe Cole next week will start to train with the team. Now he is training with the reserve team and Tuesday will start with the first team, and also Ferreira,' he said.

With additions of such quality from within the club, it is little surprise Ancelotti feels he has no need to shop elsewhere.

He said before too, that about ten days ago and then we went out and signed Matic a few days later....

I'm pretty sure the Matic signing was agreed awhile ago. Before or just after the US tour.

Who needs a checkbook? We have Romans Gold Visa!!

I got a strange feeling that we are going to sign on more player on the last day of the transfer window.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

dont bloody start that again.....teasing sod.

I think it's a bit obivous we wont be signing anyone else, we are just clinging on to hope of a big name signing which by the looks of it we don't need that much.

What dkw said.

AND I seem to remember you "speculating" about one Pato...where's this deal-io then, mister?

Refresh my memory young man. The only people I said were actually coming were Ancelotti which I mentioned was happening when Hiddink had just joined us and Zhirkov who I announced back in February. I honestly thought Pirlo was coming too but he decided to stay at Milan. At the same time I mentioned Zhirkov, Van Der Vaart was as good as on his way here too but then Malouda came good and it was decided he wasn't needed anymore which is when I mentioned it was only 60%. As for Pato - wait until next season methinks.
