Can you imagine a concert with Mahalia Jackson, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Mama Thornton, Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin. Would have been amazing. Hairs standing on the back of the neck. All had great voices filled with power and emotion.

Odetta or Odette?

Powerful voice. Only caught her after her song was on a TV advert a while back.

Btw Aretha Franklin's sister was a great singer too. Can't recall her Christian name . YouTube is full of her later years, but the rare earlier videos are much better.

Odetta. Yes, a very powerful voice. Here's one of her songs. The Seekers covered it in the 1960s.
