Agree. As mentioned before she is my favourite female singer. I think it was in the early to mid eighties that I first listened to one of her albums and thought wow, what a voice. Maybe Billie doesn't have a powerful voice like Sarah Vaughan or Ella Fitzgerald but there is so much emotion and feeling in her voice.

I watched Lady Sings the Blues where Diana Ross played Billie and though Ross has a good voice (although it has been argued that she wasn't the best singer in the Supremes) but it lacked feel. Then again, I'm not sure who could or can sing like Billie. Perhaps Sade?

i bet my last $$$$$ that we all at one stage in our youth have had a mouth organ to play ,but none of us picked up any sort of pleasureable sound at all and tossed the mouth organ to one side .

I think that what ever your views on religion and gospel music hearing these two great ladies sing together is wonderful. I seem to remember Prince describing Mavis as his favourite female singer.

I will 2nd that fella > whenever I click a link to a black artist male/ female and they are 50+ years of age I just know whatever the music style is it will be a under the table foot tapper from my appreciation of music today . I have yet to hear a poor black track from the 1950s/60s/70s ,I guess that changed in the late 1980s onwards when blacks started to ruin the early hip hop etc etc

It came to not longer after I posted the question that there is two as in 2 chelsea players this could be with Mr.james been one ,it will not be difficult to work out t’other player infact it could well be Reece James old man ?

If Iam correct Northern Soul came about after unwanted single vinyls  from America were tossed into ships as ballast when goods were been transported across to the UK . Liverpool / Manchester was the docks that would help unload said commercial trade . The music choice back in the UK was quite limited but all vinyls sold was of black/ white covers/ sleeves . 
 

The yanks were throwing records with sleeves of multi colours and the dockers in lpool/manc  were taking said colorful vinyls back home with them to play > the music was different too and it inturn started a underground new culture of music in North West of UK .

wigan casino helped wonders with Northern Soul music in UK as coach loads from all over the country would turn up to dance all throu the night and bring their own record collections to exchange or show off . Djs also was flying across to Uncle Sam to pick up un heard of tracks that were not selling in America that fit the Northern Soul fix back in the UK .

there are reports of northern football fans of going to games in London and heading into record shops asking for Northern Soul vinyls which the shop owners in the smoke had not yet latched onto .

Olive from on the buses ,was that the lady in the red dress ? I doubt I have ever heard a dour Northern Soul track tbh ,but saying that I never really took it onboard to wearing the clothes or the moves just accepted it was good music . I have watched documentary’s on Northern Soul and it turned my head how so called sounds from America that could not be given away was picked up in the UK and made a music culture on its own standing . The fact that UK djs would fly across to the states to troll record shops to pick tracks to be the first to play said tracks back in the UK at clubs etc etc speaks for it self . 

I guess we all have fell onto one band wonder tracks ,where it was never your style of music but a said band would bring out a track that made you listen > this band track got me > Rainbow > since You’ve been gone > its was a mixture of the opening guitar riff  his mirrors and the song that drew my attention and still does today > 

 

Of course ultimate music before west ham, millwall tottenham and arsenal games home or away just managdtobget you in the mood.

Their first album.....fantastic album. Very political but to me the words as now were spot on.
