Came around this collection of Dzeko's goals in this season.Seems a amazing forward with good control over ball.He had scored on OT in Wolfsberg's match against Manure and had helped them gain 0-1 lead

Edin Džeko (born 17 March 1986) is a Bosnian footballer who plays as a striker for the German Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. In December 2009, he was named Bosnian Footballer of the Year.

I haven't seen enough of him to really have an opinion, but his stats from the two previous season have been very impressive. What sort of formation does Wolfsburg use?

They use 4-4-2 formation and Dzeko plays in tandemn with Grafite being the other striker.

Dzeko's performance for Bosnian national team also has been quite goad.He has scored 14 goals in 23 appearances.

Even i havent seen much of him....but while searching for something else I found the video which I have posted above and couldnt stop praising the Bosnian Wonderkid as he is called in motherland.

From what Ive seen of him he is very Drogbaesque......there was a lot of hype with Man U purchasing him earlier this year but all speculation has seemed to of dissapeared.

Be a good eventual replacement for DD imo!

In world there might be many players who have style similar to that of Drogba...but what really sets Drogs apart is his fitness even at this age and consistency over long period.

I guess ManU are too happy with Berba's performance , so much that they don't need enforcement or replacement for 'FANTASTIC' Berbato :)

Seemingly Mancini has made him a top target at Man City, and he want's to sign him quick. They are wanting to sign 3 top players as soon as possible. I can see Dzeko being the type of player they'd go for. Can't offer him CL football, but can offer him premiership football, a nice pay cheque, and potential CL football in the future.

Good signing for them, if this is true

I think they are on the way of becoming English Real Madrid....All stars but no silverware to show :D

Lets wait n watch how they perform next year as Mancini is good coach.

Unlike Carlo,if not in his first season at least in second season he might produce some results.

Man City's signings have been quite impressive imo. Bar Robinho/Adebayor (to lesser extent) have been all very good. Players like Toure/Lescott/Tevez have been suberb.

Adam Johnson was also a magnificent get, wish we got him, going to turn into a brilliant player.

With guys like him and richards coming through in addition to their bottomless pockets. that club will be a force in the next few years.

Really? of the players youve named Tevez has been very up and down but a very good signing in the main. Johnson will be a great player, but Toure and Lescott have been appalling at times and the City fans i know say they are terrible signings.

Lescott has also been injured for a large chuck of the season, has been poor when he has played, and cost a fortune, so he is certainly not an example of a canny signing!

At Everton he had much more importance than in Citeh...if he doesn't recover well I am sure he will have to spend most of the season on bench next year.

Everton did a smart deal here by selling overpriced Lescott.

Are City trying to set new records for futility? They score a hatful of goals last year, but give up a ton of late winners. "I know! We'll sign Edin Dzeko to replace part of our brand new 100 million pound striking corps, some of which have barely gotten a game!"

In 18 months I can see Mancini out of a job, and half of their first team sold or cut loose for free. There doesnt seem to be any plan at Eastlands

At 32 I believe Drogba has another season left in him. I would not like to see him follow in the footsteps of Sheva and prolong his stay at the Bridge.

There has been much talk about the 6ft 3 in, 24 year old Wolfsburg striker, Edin Dzeko. I follow the Bundesliga and have been very impressed with this guy. I believe he would be an ideal replacement for Drogba!

30 to 35 million quid should land him!

I see Dzeko as being good, not great. I'm definitely against signing someone to replace Drogba just because he plays in a similar way to Drogba.

The way I see it, if we're going to sign someone, who will eventually take Drogba's place up front, we shouldn't be focussed on signing someone who plays like him. OK, I have just repeated myself there, so I'll try and elaborate a bit. Look at Man Utd for example... when they sold Nistelrooy, they didn't replace him with a Nistelrooy-esque striker, they got Rooney and changed their system a bit. The same can be said of Beckham, when they replaced him with Ronaldo, two completely different players.

We should be looking for someone who is as good, or better... not necessarily the same type of player.

Dzeko's style has been likened to that of Van Basten who was known for his spectacular goals and tactical awareness.

Well... I'd certainly disagree with whoever made that comparison....

Dzeko has the reputation of the "Bosnia Van Basten".

Having seen him play with Wolfsburg over the past two seasons I'm very impressed. His style is very similar to that of Van Basten although he's not in Van Basten's class.

I believe he would thrive at the Bridge!

Argh, when I see old threads bumped like this, I assume its because some foreign press outlet has a report that we are on the verge of signing him or something.

Maybe that was just wishful thinking or something. Ive seen a few of Wolfburg's games with Dzeko and Grafite up front, especially during their title winning season, and its clear this guy is a star in the making if he can find a club that fits him.

I know going off the youtube clips is stupid, but look at the tight angle finishing and the decision making when defenders and keepers are closing him down. He clearly just has "it" in the 18 yard box, a combination of ability and deicison making.

Does he really play like Drogba? Besides being good in the air and a great athletic finisher, I dont really see the comparisons, especially since Drogba has turned into a force of creativity and looks to take the ball out wide and create as well as finish. Personally, I could see Drogba toying with a defense using his usual trickery, and then dinking crosses into a waiting Dzeko finishing like Ossie. Now that would be sweet :431:
