Deco Negotiating Blues Release

Chelsea midfielder Deco has already agreed personal terms with Fluminense, according to the president of the group that owns the Brazilian club.

The Brazil-born Portugal international has long been expected to leave Stamford Bridge and he said in the last domestic season that he wanted to return to South America.

That could soon become reality as Fluminense claim that discussions with Deco have reached a positive conclusion and that all that is left to address is a deal with Chelsea and the 32-year-old's medical.

"As Deco himself said, the deal is well under way," said Celso Barros, the president of the group which owns Fluminense, a club based in Rio de Janeiro.

Medical tests

"It depends only on him being released by Chelsea and passing the medical tests, because the salary and length of contract have already been agreed.

"We will not talk this Wednesday, but in principle Deco will go to London to try to expedite his release with Chelsea.

"That done, he has asked Fluminense for at least a week to be with his children in Brazil and then he will report for medical tests and to start training."

Deco developed his career in Europe after struggling to make the grade as a teenager in Brazil, and starred for both Porto and Barcelona before moving to Chelsea in 2008.

Born and raised in the state of Sao Paulo, he represented Portugal after moving to the country and gaining citizenship, but retired from international football following their exit from this summer's World Cup.

How much do you reckon he's worth?

Not much, but I remember we signed him for £8million. Surely he's worth £1million. I'd rather we not just release players all summer, I'd rather get a bit of money from them.

Worth a zero fee to get him off the wage bill,

I agree in principle, but we should only be letting him go if we have replacements solidly lined up, if we don't get who we want we could get caught with our pants down and end up with Miniero making a suprise return to the club.

I didn't particularly fancy him when we signed him, not because he wasn't a good player for he was undoubtedly so, but more for his on-field shenanigans for Barcelona against us in the CL in previous seasons. However, when he did play, I felt he did do a good job for the most part, and I enjoyed his skill on the ball and vision in the pass.

Cheers,

Butch

Hear hear, Butch. He was a player I didnt like, and many disliked before he came here. It wasnt exactly the best 2 years he could have had at Chelsea (Imagine if Deco had've come here with JM, as rumored) but was part of some great goals.

Best of luck to him, its nice to hear about players going "home" for their last club move

Good riddance, I remember been very disapointed when we signed him

Jeez, you just love our players, dont you?

I'm slightly sad to see him go. I don't think people recognized how good some of his performances were for us due to an association with a terrible period (Scolari).

Yes best of luck. Like him or not (and I don't like him much), he was a still a member of CFC during our double-winning year and when our grandchildren search the squad of the historic season they will see Deco there. Too bad they wiill never know the truth of him... ::ChElSeaFLag::

i think it's been posted elsewhere that Belletti also looks to be on his way to Fluminese. here's a little more info, it's not quite confirmation but it's getting there:

Juliano Belletti to join Fluminense after Chelsea exit

Brazilian club Fluminense are set to confirm the signing of Juliano Belletti after agreeing terms with the former Barcelona and Chelsea defender.

Belletti, who was released by Chelsea in the summer, will pen a two-year deal subject to completing a medical.

The 34-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2007 and made almost 100 appearances over a three-year period.

Chelsea announced in June that they would not be renewing the contracts of Belletti, Joe Cole and Michael Ballack.

Belletti, capped 25 times by Brazil and a member of the 2002 World Cup winning squad, joined Chelsea from Barcelona a year after scoring the winning goal in the Catalan side's Champions League final victory over Arsenal.

His career began at Cruzeiro before moving on to Sao Paulo, Atletico Mineiro and Villarreal.

Belletti to Fluminense confirmed:

BELLETTI BACK TO BRAZIL

Posted on: Thu 15 Jul 2010

Juliano Belletti, whose three-season spell at Chelsea came to an end this summer when his contract expired, has reached agreement, subject to a medical, to sign for Fluminense in his native Brazil.

The move will be completed when the transfer window in Brazil opens in August.

The 34-year-old becomes the second of last year's first team squad to find a new club following Michael Ballack's return to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.

I'm going to miss Belletti. I always liked him, and hope he can light up the league in Brazil. I just wish I'd been able to see him more often as a defensive mid.

The screamers aside, I'm always going to remember his brief stint on the right wing quite fondly (even if he wasn't that good), and the sight of him being further up the pitch than Anelka for most of the game was pretty funny.

Says he has quit, but nothing on offical?

The Sun "article"(I use that term in the loosest sense possible) says he has quit. The only thing Deco says in the so called article is "I'll always remember the club". The whole article has four sentences in it and one of them was the quote and one of them was the headline. The one who wrote it has to be the laziest journalist ever. If Deco really had already quit the club, surely they'd have more material to put into their article, right? Maybe another quote or two perhaps. Or was that one sentence the only thing Deco said to them? Or was it recycled from an old article?

Talking of mirror...The Sun makes The Mirror look like a respectable newspaper. :shok:

Chelsea midfielder Deco is confident of sealing a move to Fluminense.

The Stamford Bridge future for the midfielder looks bleak with the arrival of Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool.

The 32-year-old admitted: “We are still negotiating but I am optimistic.â€
