Chelsea want Barcelona's £20m World Cup winner Sergio Busquets to bolster aging midfield

Chelsea have reportedly ear-marked Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets as their No 1 target next summer as they continue to search for youth to replace the aging members of the squad.

The World Cup winner came through the ranks at the Camp Nou and despite still being just 22-years-old is a regular in the Catalan's midfield.

However Busquets position could be under threat as the season progresses following Javier Mascherano's £22million-move from Liverpool. The Argentine is still finding his feet but there are suggestions his best form is just around the corner.

That would put Busquets to the bench, a fact that has alerted Chelsea.

Sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo claims representatives from Stamford Bridge have made tentative enquiries to Barca with the view to a possible switch at the end of the season. Any move, though, is likely to be blocked by Pep Guardiola.

Busquets is contracted until 2013, with the club already preparing a lucrative extension to the deal.

Chelsea's search for youth has seen them sign both Daniel Sturridge and Ramires over the last two years, as well as blood youngsters Gael Kakuta and Josh McEachran in the first-team.

Brilliant player but an absolute twat and not really what we need at the moment as Mikel is a fine defensive midfielder.

£20 million would be better spent elsewhere, namely a new striker.

Aging midfield?

Lampard 32

Benayoun 30

Essien 27

Zhirkov 27

Ramires 23

Mikel 23

McEachran 17

That isn't that old really. Five years from now we can still play: Essien - McEachran - Mikel

with Zhirkov and Ramires as backup. And Lampard might still be playing as well - even if he'll be 37 years old.

And I actually don't rate Busquets that high. Isn't he a Ramires or Essien type of player? Then we really don't need him.

Buy someone like Dzagoev or Kroos instead.

Good player, but no need for him. Think we'll be spending money to replace Nico and Drogs in the coming year, not add to our midfield in any huge way.

Dear me, are the papers just trying to find horrible little sh*ts to link us to. First Alves, now soggy biscuits. Dont want the cheating little sh*t anywhere near our club.

This is unrealistic quite simply because

a) He's too similar to Mikel and neither would be content with a place on the bench

B) He'd be far too expensive - a born-and-bred Barca man who is a consistent first teamer?

c) Are we sure he'd want to move?

d) He's a c- ok, I think you get the idea...
