Heard from a mate who`s an Everton fan that we apparently inquired about Heitinga during this transfer window, but were told he wont be moving until the summer. The rumours are we will be back in for him once the season is over. I`m not sure about this, where will it leave Bruma, will it mean one of our current CB`s will be leaving? He`s a good player mind, always been impressed by him.

Yeah I heard the rumour about 15 minutes before the deadline. It was on an Everton blog and came up on newsnow amongst all the Torres and Luiz news. It stuck out like a sore thumb and so I had a quick read. I'll see if I can find it.

As a player I must admit I do rate him, I share your thoughts about Bruma though. Surely we have to keep hold of him. Maybe Alex will be on his way out? I hope not.

EDIT: Found it....

That was something I was thinking but didnt want to put into words.

He's a RB isn't he? Not CB?

I think he`s predominantly a CB, but can play RB and DM.

It wasn't easy. I guess it depends on whether he'd be happy on the bench following Luiz's arrival. He's not getting any younger and might favour regular first team football at this stage of his career. Having said that, what's to say Luiz will walk straight into the side ahead of him.

EDIT: Does he play more at RB then? If so my mistake

I'm not convinced Carlo rates Bruma and wouldn't be suprised at all if he leaves in the summer. If he had any faith in him we'd have seen him feature more when we were short of centre backs earlier in the season. On top of that he's still making too many silly mistakes in the reserves - another Robert Huth maybe? Just not quite there.

I hope not by the way because in so many ways he is very very impressive - time will tell.

Bruma is a reasonable player, but in all honesty I can't see him making it here. He strikes me as the kind of player who would do well at a mid-table club, but not much higher. Could be wrong of course, but that's just based on what I've seen so far.

I've got much higher hopes about PVA though, I think he will be a great LB in the future, hopefully taking over from Cole in a few years time. And used as a rotation backup until then.

I actually think we might have inquired about Heitinga before the deal with Luiz was done. If we hadn't got Luiz then we might have gone for Heitinga.

I agree can't see us coming back for him in the summer. If we did god forbid sell alex then I think we'd pursue van der wiel and keep ivanovic as a more permant cb. Arneson has recently said he was a target.

Interesting.

It would also lead me to believe something is up with Alex, maybe has been tapped by interest from Spain? It would make sense as he is Brazilian, scores senstaional goals, and is a rare combination of decent speed and great strengh. I am sure Jose looks at someone like Pepe and realizes he is like a poor man's Alex. Then again Alex will be 29 in the summer. I wouldnt consider parting with him unless it was a big fee.

If somehow we do have to buy cover for CB after losing someone else, then I would much rather chase the oft mentioned, sometimes overpriced English candidates. Heitinga is only 27, but even if someone like Phil Jones cost double, having them around the extra years more than worth it.

BUt at present? I would much rather Bruma get the extra games.

I like Alex alot but he's no Ricci Carvalho and thats what we've clearly lacked. If we were to offload Alex in the summer I honestly wouldn't mind that much, I'd be very greatful for his service and wish him luck in the future.

Bruma is still young. We must remember that Terry was on loan to Notts Forest amongst others when younger. At chelsea he learnt from Desailly and Leboeuf- a formidable pairing, good enough to appear in the WCF against Brazil. However Bruma may not quite match up.

Ivanovic is a better all round bet than Alex; as good in the air and better on the ground although both can be prone to errors. Luiz will be there for speed and Brazilian skills of ball usage. Alex could prove to be surplus as could JT very soon. Once against Sunderland he looked very slow to turn.

A sad but inevitable day may not be too far ahead.

Hope we don't sign Heitinga, always seems to kick off on the pitch dont really like the player and deffinately not good enough
