programme cover for Sunderland v Chelsea, Wednesday, 17th Sep 1947 Wednesday, 17th Sep 1947 at 6pm. This was a 3-2 win for us in front of 31,444 spectators.

The Chelsea debut of Jimmy Bowie.  He scored two goals on his debut too.  Our other goal scorer was Tommy Lawton.

When I was a youngster, living in the same street. There was an older man of the same name, Jimmy Bowie, who had played down in England.

This Jimmy Bowie was a Scot who cost £25 when he joined us from an Aberdeen Junior side in 1944.

I don't think it was him unfortunately. Sorry for being so long winded !

programme cover for Chelsea v Greenock Morton, Wednesday, 18th Sep 1968  19680918.jpg Wed 18th Sept 1968. We beat my local Scottish side Greenock Morton 5-0. Our scorers were: Peter Osgood 42nd, Alan Birchenall 45th, Charlie Cooke 50th, John Boyle 67th and John Hollins 84th mins.

This was against Charlie Cooke's hometown side, so it was fitting he scored in the 50th min.

My old man travelled down with the Morton supporters to watch this midweek game.

So he and his mates were in the crowd of 28,736 who  saw it
