I hope you're not insinuating they had bad taste in music...

In another thread, moi requested some Finnish Christmas songs, so I'll post some real classics here(they tend to be melancholic for some reason). It seems it's easier to find versions by famous pop/rock artists:

Tarja Turunen - Varpunen jouluaamuna

http://youtu.be/zSSyyYwJEko

Tapio Rautavaara - Sylvian joululaulu

http://youtu.be/M6fZWl1lQtk

Rajaton - Heinillä Härkien Kaukalon

Karita Mattila - On hanget korkeat nietokset

http://youtu.be/N4wyh7poh_E

And then something a bit different:

Juice Leskinen - Me käymme joulun viettohon

I might post some more later.

Here are some more recent Christmas tunes:

Leevi and the Leavings - Oikein synkkää joulua

Eläkeläiset - Täydellinen joulu

Leevi and the Leavings - Jossain kai on joulu

M.A. Numminen - Joulupukki puree ja lyö

Juice Leskinen - Sika

I'd love a translation of the words to Sika!

Here's a very simple version of a song that is often done too screechily

I'd love a translation of the words to Sika!

"Sika" means "pig", which is to Finns on Christmas what turkey is to many other countries. It's an anti meat industry and anti greed song. And not a very subtle one either.

I'll give it a go... A very rough translation of part of the song:

The Christmas celebrations begin in May

The pigs have mouths full of treats

They grow, get fatter and stronger

And in November the children sing:

"The real star of Christmas is the pig"

The pig - it gets a bullet in its head

The pig - the butcher slaughters it

The pig - and drinks its blood

The pig - gets you into Christmas mood

I anxiously watch the hog wallowing in filth

On Christmas you won't remember the pig,

but clamour for the roast

And the children sing:

"The real star of Christmas is the pig"

...

And so on... I think you get the idea.

I figured it must be something along those lines. That is brilliant! It doesn't do to be too subtle - the people you're aiming for don't get it!!

This was a Christmas project undertaken by a small Eskimo school (or should i say Inuit?) Don't know if the uRL will work here
