Torres to lead the line for Spain?

Featured Replies

Seen this written in a few places, La Liga journo Sid Lowe also tweeted that he thinks Torres is 'favoured' by Del Bosque (favoured enough to be dropped a few months ago?) Interesting one though as Llorente is knackered, Soldado not in the 23 and Negredo a bit hot and cold. Few thoughts on it here: http://blog.oddslife.com/2012/05/torres-torture-over-del-bosque-returns-to-tried-and-tested/

I reckon he might get the nod, be decent if he comes back firing

Thanks for posting that header, not seen it. Kind of thing that just wouldn't have gone in for him a few months ago, but now it's all coming back!

Watched the game live. Torres scoring never gets old.

Also what a missile of a goal by Do-heon Kim!! Game kinda was decided cheaply on two handballs but still pretty good game.

Very dissapointed with the crowd though. Why play it in Switzerland if they can't even sell out? Atmosphere would've been crazy in South Korea and prob very good in Spain as well. Worst part of the game was the crowd + Tommy Smyth's commentating.

I guess it's all down to Euro preparation, else they'd probably have been quite happy with a lucrative game in South Korea!

I listened to Tommy Smyth being critical of Torres and then in the EPL talk podcast they were very dismissive of Torres and said he wouldn't start (Llorente would start according to them).

I just get the feeling this isn't going to turn out well for Torres. Like either he'll start and Spain won't score goals and be knocked out early or he'll be benched.

I do think Spain is in for a fall this tournament and I wouldn't want Torres to be blamed for that.

I would like to know what the Spanish fans think of him, I just get the sense they're not 100% supportive of Torres.

Here are four articles from Marca. One thing that counts in Torres' advantage is that he is experienced. Del Bosque has clearly chosen his players from that, with 19 of the 23 players featuring in Euros 08. I think Torres will get the nod. Even if he doesn't score he will create space for other players with his movement, and Del Bosque sees that. Too bad for Torres that the Spanish National Team never goes away from their non-direct playing style. Llorente seems too me like a pure plan B solution. Think it's more likely that Del Bosque will go for a striker less formation with Silva as a false number 9 than having Llorente starting.

Real Madrid-supporters hate him, the others sees his value (after all, he won them the Euros 08).

I see lots of people in the other Torres thread playing down his goal, saying it was average, lucky, whatever - the most important thing about that goal for me is that it shows he's got his confidence back. That's the kind of header you wouldn't even attempt unless you had some confidence.

Doesn't matter how it goes in, just that it does!
