Boots and braces

Featured Replies

I can remember having a conversation with an old shed ender from back in the skinhead era some time ago now.Whilst sitting at home today i remember the conversation and i wondered if there was any truth in it.

So some of you old shed enders or north stand boys might be able to shine some light on this, what this chap told me, because if it is true i found it quiet Intresting.

He told me that back in the day when the skinhead fashion was at its height, that you could go to Stamford Bridge and would be able to identify where people were from.ie If you were from, say Stockwell you wore for instance blue braces and blue laces in your boots and say if you were from say Battersea it would be for instance red braces and red laces in your boots and different areas had their own colours. So is their any truth in this or was this old skinhead telling me some porkies all them years ago.

Back in the late seventies Fred Perry polo shirts could be found in all sorts of colours and i do recall seeing a claret shirt with the trade mark laural and 2 thin blue strips on the collar and around the arms.

As a Chelsea Skinhead in the late 70s early 80s i always wore a blue Fred Perry with white piping. West ham used to wear the claret and sky blue. Spurs used to wear white ect.

Personally i think it was a myth about the laces, Idiots usually say red laces or white for racist. Ect. All bollocks in my opinion.

The only thing I remember which was similar was the colour of the silk handkerchief in the breast pocket of the Crombie - Chelsea wore blue, Arse red, Spuds white, West Ham claret, etc... seemed to just be a London thing (let's face it, if the bloody northerners had been offered a Crombie they'd have eaten it).

Northerners being all those who live anywhere up the map from Watford, eh. Steve?

Naturally I don't include God's Own Country when I mention northerners! I was thinking more of the scum who infested the back streets of Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds. Nice kilt by the way!

ps - anything north of the Thames is up north so far as I'm concerned!

Spot on mate, the north starts at Wandsworth Bridge.

I had the blue folded hankerchief in the top pocket of my Crombie, also had Blue Dms at one stage, they were dyed using lady esquire blue dye.

Very trendy boots and never worn with a butchers coat.

Wasnt often the old bill let you keep your laces at away games when you got off the train

.......but.......one should always have had a spare set hidden in the bollock area

I can remember the Old Bill taking the laces out of everyone's boots and you had to reclaim them after the game.

They were all tied to a railing. How could anyone tell what's what?
