Football Ironies - What are your favourites?

Featured Replies

1. West Ham "won" the World Cup - Which obviously ignores the contribution of all other players throughout the tournament.

2. Arsenal play the "best football". Something that was said on end up until recently. Surely the best football is winning football?

Last but not least..

3. Chelsea and City fans being called "plastics" and "gloryhunters" by United, Liverpool and Arsenal fans (mainly). When it was widely acknowledged that both Chelsea and City have arguably the most loyal of fanbases given the relative lack of success they had prior to being taken over by Multi-Billionaires. Especially when Liverpool (1970s), United (circa 58 & 92) and Arsenal (Circa 1997) gained most of their fans due to successful teams they had in those periods.

If only the Arsenal fans I knew didn't have their heads so far up their asses and actually listened to what I told them.

I find this one pretty ironic and silly. United fans are notoriously labelled as being overwhelmingly "Tourists" (over half of them are either foreign or not from Manchester altogether), expertly captured in this funny-as-f**k clip.

arsenal fans bashing abramovich and saying chelsea players are only here for the money, when their management is dead set in completely disregarding trophies and being content with just making profit

none of those are ironies.

Being called a plastic by a Utd fan from Essex certainly ranks as ironic in my book, as does being called a glory-hunter by a middle-aged Liverpool supporter from Tooting.

The fact that footballers essentially dedicate their entire pre-adult lives to the sport in order to have a small chance at a career, all the while a large and noisy chunk of the population constantly tells them that they get paid far too much and have done nothing to earn their wages.

Oh yes, but they're playing the game they love.

;)
