No one ever mentions Blanchflower

What was the reaction of older fans at his appointment? I was a young boy at the time and didnt really know of our deep hatred of spurs. Was his inexperience the reason he did not last or the fans not having it?

It was probably more because he only won 5 of his 32 matches.

That was as bad as we have been in my lifetime, I think. Although it's a toss-up between that run, the run under Hurst when we scored in one of the last 16 matches, and the relegation fight under John Neal when we almost went down to Division 3.

Blanchflower's appointment was classic Mears cluelessness. Up there with the board's treatment of Eddie Mac, and the appointment of an out-of-his-depth Shellito. But not in the same league as selling Stamford Bridge to a property developer (although that was probably utter selfishness and greed rather than cluelessness).

An astonishing appointment at the time, such a backward step.

He must of come cheap and turned out to be clueless.

Dark days, saddens me that we had no ambition at the time.

Seem to remember singing "Danny Blanchflower's blue and white army"

Would've been good to have had him be successful and be remembered for his time with us...but, rightly, he lived and died as a Spud (no offence meant there).

Blanchflower was a gentleman, and was a fantastic, intelligent footballer as well as a great writer for one of the papers. He was hopeless as our manager, but it was hard to dislike him. The Tottenham thing wasn't an issue, as it wasn't with Hoddle and the many ex Spurs players we've signed over the years, such as Hazard, Roberts etc etc......
