Danilo Pantic

Chelsea might not be making any additions to the first team squad during the January transfer window, but if reports in Serbia are to be believed, they're on the verge of signing another young talent for their army of loanees. The Serbian media is reporting that the Blues have agreed to a transfer fee for midfielder Danilo Pantic, who would then be sent on loan to Vitesse Arnhem.

Pantic is considered to be a pretty good prospect by most who follow Serbian football, though as someone who hasn't seen a single Partizan game this season, I can't say that I'm all that familiar. Youtube has some old highlight videos though, so we can commence drooling immediately:

If correct, it will be fun to watch Pantic contribute at Vitesse this season, and see how he stacks up against Eredivisie competition. If nothing else, it's certainly nice to know we're not giving up on the talent hoarding philosophy which has been working so well of late.

Seems it's officil:

18-year-old Danilo Pantic looks likely to join Chelsea and from there he will spend time at Vitesse, which he says he is excited about.

— Peter McVitie (@PeterMcVitie) January 19, 2015

Pantic: "At 18 you can hardly have a chance with Chelsea, where they play experienced and already proven stars of world football."

— Peter McVitie (@PeterMcVitie) January 19, 2015

Pantic: So I like the idea of playing with Vitesse very much. I think that the Dutch league is ideal for a young player to acquire habits...

— Peter McVitie (@PeterMcVitie) January 19, 2015

Pantic: ...of Western notions of professionalism and develop properly. In the Netherlands, the game is open and it will suit me.

I keep reading his name as Don't Panic.

That's about all I have to contribute to this discussion bar saying that if we keep signing promising youngsters, it's all to the good, some will make it here, more will make us a profit.  As Xfactor says, why not?

One question : Why?

Another candidate to go on loan, unfortunately

Sign him cheap, either becomes a really good player and plays for us or becomes a decent player and gets sold for profit.

If there is such a thing as a non-complicated, straightforward, no-BS football transfer, I have yet to see it.  Case in point, here's Danilo Panti? who seemed to have agreed to sign with Chelsea last week, and spoke of his excitement even at the prospect of getting loaned out to Vitesse, but now claims that he hasn't actually signed anything with anybody.

"It's true I've been talk of the town lately but I know I didn't sign anything with Chelsea. They showed interest but no concrete deal was struck. I'm still Partizan player with five more months of contract, focused on preps. Early part of winter training is extremely fierce and you need a clear head to go through it."

-Danilo Pantic; source:

Granted, there was nothing actually confirmed last week, and this sounds more like fan service and damage control PR than actual denial of a deal eventually happening, but it sure feels contrary to the progress reported previously.  Is Pantic holding out for more money?  Has he soured on the loan idea?  Does he have other offers?  Maybe he wants to sign with superpowers Bradford City instead?

Stay tuned.

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Danilo Pantic from Partizan Belgrade, with the player immediately joining Vitesse Arnhem for the forthcoming campaign.

A central or left midfielder, Pantic played for Partizan in last season’s Europa League, impressing with his skill and creativity.

Pantic said: ‘I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, the champions of the English Premier League, and I hope I can show my value at Vitesse in the coming season. I am honoured at the faith both clubs have shown in me.’

The 18-year-old has represented Serbia at youth level and helped his country reach the semi-finals of last summer’s European Under-19 Championships.
