Tibo isn't the last man because at the point of contact Cahill is closer to our goal than he is, close to the incident too. Add that to the fact the touch past the keeper was at an angle and pace that was moving the ball away from goal which would have meant having a bit of work to do, wasn't going to be a simple tap in for the striker.

A keeper not being there isn't really the deciding factor, it's where the ball is and the possibility of the striker being able to score before a defender can intervene.

But in that situation. Cahill takes the place of the goalkeeper, and courtois is the last man.

If a defender fouls a player with just the keeper to beat he is deemed the last man and denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Gomis was brought down with just a defender between him and the goal. It's a red card fore all day, if it had been the other end we all would have said it was a red.

it was a joke. José has been having a go at little Eva after the game.

Lighten up....seen the video again ?

I've seen it about 6 times today thanks. He was pulling out of the challenge..

Not sure what relevance of pushing home the dangerous play point when he wasn't even sent off for that. You could sit and dissect the whole game and say a player was lucky for not getting a yellow there or a foul there. The point is what he was sent off for. Like I said, there are additional criteria for the pro foul sending off...

The direction of the play

The distance between the offence and the goal

The likelihood of the player keeping or gaining control of the ball

Proximity of both the attacker and defender to the ball

The location and number of defenders

The opportunity for an obvious attempt on goal

All of those have to be obviously in the strikers favour for it to be a red. They wasn't.

Ignoring the high challenge, if Gomis is not fouled he knocks it into an open goal for me. Cahill wouldn't have got there. Even if Cahill has a slight chance of getting there, it is still an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

I'm not how anyone can have any complaints. Even if cahill is close enough to make a challenge it's still a clear goal scoring opportunity.

He only has to hit the target from about 15 yrds out!

No its not a red. You probably need to forget the last man thing as it's not even a stipulation in the law.

yeah , they are all in the strikers favour, what's your point?

The fact the ball is running away from the direction of the goal that far out with a defender 5 yards away....is not in the strikers favour.

, Does it depend on who the striker is ?

I mean if it was Torres, then there's never going to be an obvious opportunity.

Yikes, Arsenal 2 down, Petr having a howler !

Lol fair point. :-)

A proper still of the incident should have been taken a fraction later which shows Gomis had knocked it quite far from him and away from goal..anyone who has played the game will know that by the time Gomis would have brought the ball under control with his left foot, Cahill would be blocking the angle to goal

What's with "little Eva"  all the time.  As I've said in the Jose thread, she's grown woman in her thirties.  Stop being so patronising.

It's s play on her size, she actually IS little and a pop singer reference.

José is s bully

So after all the commotion yesterday doesn't look as bad a result with the gooners getting pumped. Important we don't read too much into yesterday and move on ready for Sunday. Come on the blues

What makes you think she can't stand up to Jose?  I didn't see anything to say he was bullying her - just saying he thought she should'v acted differently.  You seem to be assuming she's being bullied because she's physically small and a woman

Played a full strength team against Arsenal and got beat played a full strength team against Swansea at home and was lucky to get point.

So we're all hopeful of beating City are we other wise it's catch up. Last season was 1st the whole time.

I don't trust JM under pressure he can't handle it. It's why Pep and Barcelona made him look like a pub team manager for 4 years.

Losing at home to the pikeys, get it right up you  :laugh2:  :laugh2:  :laugh2:

Arsenal fan tv is going to be unmissable tonight.

Lol, I was just about to post the same, its quality when they get a result like this, can't wait to see what "bully" and "Claude" make of this !!

huh ? I didn't say she couldn't stand up to him..

And when someone in a position of power uses his position to belittle others, that is considered form of bullying in the workplace, her size and sex are irrelevant.
