Who saw Jose ask Robben if we wanted to take it? and Robben said no, no way ..

im speechless. Cech is the better keeper, i was sure we would go through on penalties.

Cant fault the effort. Mikel and Maka were fantastic. Lampard played well.

Drogba wasn't great

Joe....

... doesnt matter. Its over.

Hope Jose isnt sacked, hope he is with us for many more seasons.

I saw that, and was shocked to see Robben take a penalty. It was not hard to read his lips when Jose approached him, so I have no idea why Jose picked him. Out of spite?!

I do not want Jose to go, but perhaps we can have a substitute coach for Jose when we play Liverpool, since Jose's game tactics versus Liverpool always leave a lot to be desired. It is like Benitez owns him, and knows it.

i don't agree that benitez outwitted jose...liverpool were barely in our half for the second hour...sure they marshalled drogba but any idiot can think of that...luck was heavily on liverpool's side like it was two years ago

I've never ever felt so ill after a football match. I mean seriously talk about chucking it all away ... when Robben missed I almost knew what the outcome would be. Not once in 2 poxy bloody hours did we really go for it. Not even close. F*cking awful.

Cech is a better keeper but Reina is perhaps better at penalties. He's amazing.

Robben taking a penalty is madness. Not only because he didn't want to but also because he hasn't played in awhile and was clearly not 100% fit for the game.

The same goes for Geremi. He might have wanted to take a penalty but he hasn't played much this season and I don't think you should trust a player who doesn't play with taking a vital penalty.

I'm afraid Jos? f*cked up today. icon_sad.gif

Yes, but even Lamps penalty went on the inside of Reina, who actually lunged past his shot. He is a quick one, that Reina.

I just can't believe we lost to that shi*e team...they were so poor...very few of their players had a good game...mascherano, and the two centre backs and the keeper in the shoot-out, that's it...

for us I'd say respect to maka, his best game for months and showed why he had this role named after him, mikel class, terry leader, essien awesome, drogba battled,

Yeah, Lamps penalty wasn't great, but if he hadn't put it high (high enough anyway) Reina would have saved it. He knew what to do. Usually I feel secure when Lampard takes penalties but since he wasn't good during the game I felt as if he might miss it. I was happy to be wrong.

One thing I don't get is why nobody puts the ball high in the middle of the goal? Reina lounges to the sides on every penalty and very early too so that he reaches the ball in time if the opponent puts the penalty there. I doubt you even have to shot the ball hard in the middle to score on Reina icon_confused.gif

I knew we'd lost the moment it went to penalties. Robben's first miss just confirmed it for me. Just once, just f**kin ONCE i want to be on the winning side with penalties. (Now someone's gonna remind me of the last time Chelsea won on penalties, which I cant for the life of me remember right now)

Maybe Jose was asking if he was scared of taking a penalty to which Robben's response was "no way" he may have been well up for it.

I seem to recall Reina had a reputation in prior to joining Liverpool as a penalty specialist as he had amazing stats in the Spanish league.

You can't blame Jose for top class professional footballers taking sh*t penalties. That just doesn't wash with me. There's only one player I wouldn't have liked to have seen taken a penalty and that was Maka and he was subbed. For me Lamps as the first choice penalty taker should have been first up to take one, to calm the nerves of the following players.

To shoot into the middle of the goal takes balls, but I believe that was the right thing to do with Reina. Cech, on the other hand, hesitates for a split second, which is probably the right thing to do, and then lunges one way or the other.

That is a very good point, and I was shocked to see Zenden being the first penalty taker for Liverpool.

No, you can't blame Jos? for players not scoring on their penalties but you can blame him for chosing the wrong players to take them. I'm surprised he didn't let Maka take one. But of course he might actually have scored icon_rolleyes.gif

As for Reina. I heard that he had saved like 11 out of 17 penalties icon_eek.gif

Can't remember if that includes his time at Pool though.

Now, given those stats, which certainly Jose must have known about, at best we were 40-60% to go through on penalties. I don't care how good Cech is, he does not have those kind of penalty-stopping stats.

Yeah but I'm sure he asks the players if they fancy it and goes with the ones who are confident.

Out of the players on the pitch the first 3 I would have chosen to take pens (if they were confident) would've been in order: 1. Lamps 2. Drogs. 3. Essien

I think I would go with the same players. One I might have given a chance if necessary is Mikel. Sure he's inexperienced but with the form he's in I think he could've scored.

And we know he can strike a ball. It's a shame it's all academic now, I just hope we beat Man Utd in normal time in the FA Cup Final as I don't fancy this again anytime soon.

I agree. Though Van Der Sar is perhaps not as good at penalties as Reina.

And if we play like we did today I can promise you the game won't reach any penalties. We will be slaughtered way before the game ends icon_sad.gif

Chelsea screwed it big time. Forget penalties. They cannot even score a goal against a sh*tty side.

So much for the spending. Only semis to show. Can 2 league title and 2 Carling Cups be enough?

I am picking them to lose the next 4 games. icon_twisted.gif

I reckon we could get a draw in one of them.
