I know that everyone is probably still gutted about last night. But I just wonder why when Jose made the tactical decision to bring on Ron (Geremi ), who is a penalty specialist apparently, he didn't bring on Carlo instead!

Cech is without a doubt the best goalkeeper in the world, but he cannot save penalties. Since he has been our No. 1, I cannot recall us winning a penalty shoot-out or even him saving a single penalty.

In contrast, look back to the period 3-4 seasons ago when nobody could put a penalty past Carlo! He seems to anticipate penalties better than Petr. Petr IMHO always seems to move too early during penalty kicks allowing the attacker to place it in the opposite corner.

I knew deep down that if we didn't win it in 120 minutes that we would lose on penalties.

That wouldve been madness and a total lack of respect to Cech who had played his part it Chelsea being where they were.

As for Cech saving pens - he saved one up at Ewood a few years ago but im sure there may have been another.

I know, I know! I'm only talking hypothetically! It is not the right thing to do and unfair on Cech, but I just can't help think that Carlo has the edge on penalties!

Like in Hockey, they bring on specialist players to take penalty corners, it would be good if we could bring on a specialist penalty saver!!

I don't think I need to remind anyone how important the save off Paul Dickov was. Our season was about to derail following injuries to Duff and Robben.

Cech is 6'7", he isn't a penalty stopper period....

you could have put Gordon Banks in goal, Robben and Gerimi would still have missed their penalties.

Err, the last and only penalty shootout we've had since Cech has been here was against Charlton last year in the Carling Cup. Charlton scored all 5 of their penalties and we lost and guess who was in goal? Yep. It was Carlo.

Quite soon into extra-time I was sure the match would go to penalties. I had the same feeling as when I watch England at the world cup. There was a sense of inevitability about it all. And like England, I was convinced we wouldn't win the shoot-out, especially against a side who win them with such Teutonic efficieny.
