abramovich
I was blaming Jose for not using him in the midst of central defence injury crisis, but his comeback vs Arse was shocking. I seem to remember one match where he was actually great: home vs Barca. Need to add though that his two mistakes at Nou Camp led to two Barca goals. There were several occasions when he looked totally out of his depth(at Spuds and at Emirates to name just a few), and i wonder 1) who bought him and why, and 2) do we need to find two central defenders since he is, to put it simply, not good enough? Gallas exit at the end of the offseason was a blow to our plans and Boula transfer now seems to have been a desperate attempt to fix the disaster before the season start. Maksimov
Boula was probably the only player who had the qualities to make it in the Premiership out of the ones that were available on such a short notice(after it became clear we'd lose Gallas). I think we tried to get Kompany and maybe some others were on the shortlist...(?)
loz
As much as I was cursing Boula at the time you do have to account of the fact that he has hardly played any football for ages now and all seaosn he has rarely played in his preferred position of centre half. Very few players are going to ever be anywhere near their best when playing this little football.
Maksimov
Good point Loz! It might be a good idea to keep Boula on for another year at least, but we still need another central defender. I doubt we have anyone in the reserves who is good enough to be promoted to the first team for next season, so it looks like we will be looking for someone new. I haven't heard anything about possible signings for that position other than Alex. Just saw this story on Eat Sleep Sport: Alex deal back on Wed, May 09 2007 14:51 Chelsea are set to press ahead with the signing of Brazilian defender Alex who has spent the last three seasons on loan at Ajax. The Blues sent him to Holland while he awaited EU clearance because the Dutch have more relaxed work permit regulations. Ajax were keen on keeping him for another season, while Spurs have recently started to show more than a keen interest in the player. But Chelsea want to keep him. The 24-year-old, who joined Chelsea in 2004, expects to have all of the paperwork sorted out by the start of next season and it will finally mean that the highly-rated defender will be given a chance to shine on the Premiership stage. How many mistakes can you spot in that article?

How many mistakes can you spot in that article? Never heard of Eat Sleep Sport before. But it has to be said that that little lot makes your average Sun/Daily Mirror/Daily Mail etc story look like the height of accuracy and objectivity by comparison. Wait a minute - that's not supposed to be a serious article, is it? Please tell me they're having a laugh.

mad_mac
I would like Alex to be on our team, but at who's expense? He is a central defender, right? So that means no Carvs or Terry. Right back, I think he can play there, but that would mean Johno wasn't comming back. LB, we have Bridgey and Cole. I doubt and of JT Carvs or Alex would want to sit on the bench waiting for their turn as Boulah did this season. Plus, you ahve to remember how good he was against Ronnie at Barca, and also that he suffered on hell of an injury, then hardly played again!
