Rangers v Bayern Munich. European Cup Winners Cup semi Final Second Leg. Rangers won 2-0. Jardine and Parlane . 3-1 on aggregate. Official attendance 80,000. There are very few spaces on the terracing.

True attendance thought to be 100,000 -105,000

Bayern Munich in April 1972.My old man always reckoned that was the loudest he’d ever heard a crowd at Ibrox.

And the Rangers game he would love to have been able to go back in time and watch again as a supporter.

My grandfathers Rangers game choice was the 1928 Scottish Cup Final 4-0 over Celtic.

V RANGERS .HAMPDEN - GLASGOW.Derek Parlane lifts the Scottish Cup after Rangers 3-2 victory over Celtic.

V RANGERS .HAMPDEN - GLASGOW.The Celtic players can only watch as Derek Parlane's header hits the back of the net to equalise for Rangers.

Derek Parlane had his 20th birthday on 5th May 1973.

What did he do?

He played and scored for Rangers, as they beat Celtic 3-2 in the Scottish Cup Final in front of a crowd of 122,714 spectators

Not that much really!😀

Rangers beat St Mirren 2-0 in the Scottish Cup Final on 21st April 1962. Ralph Brand and Davie Wilson scoring.

Official attendance was 127,940.

That massive crowd wasn’t even the biggest crowd in Hampden in April 1962!

The previous Saturday, 14th April 1962. A crowd officially given as 132,441 was at Hampden to watch Scotland beat England 2-0. Davie Wilson and Eric Caldow scoring for Scotland.

Add 20,000 to both these games for the ‘true crowds’!

Presentation of the Scottish Cup to Eric Caldow Rangers captain.

They had beaten Kilmarnock 2-0 in front of a crowd given as officially 108,017.

.Add 20,000:for the real crowd figure! 23rd April 1960.

The packed Hampden North Enclosure as the respective captains of Rangers and Dundee look to see who has ‘won’ the toss of the coin.

Scottish Cup Final .25th April 1964. Official attendance given as 120,982. The lack of terracing space shows it was much more than that!

Jimmy Millar makes it 2-1 Rangers.

The Rangers support cheer the team. Most of my older male relatives were all in that support that day.

Rangers players celebrate their 3-1 win and completing the ‘domestic treble’.

This match, though nobody knew it at the time ,was the end of an era for Rangers.

Championship Celebration match v Airdrie. 26th April 1975.

65,000 going on 95,000 (when you add in all the youngsters who were ‘lifted over the turnstiles’ and not counted in the official attendance.

Kai Johansen scoring the only goal of the Scottish Cup Final Replay against Celtic. 27th April 1966.

The all-important goal, the only one of the game. This is how Raymond Jacobs described it:

It was a goal worthy of winning any trophy and its quality was matched only by its unexpectedness. Johnston wriggled his way to the byeline and when McLean missed the ball a few yards out it ran to Henderson. The winger’s shot was cleared off the line by Murdoch out to Johansen, who let fly from 25 yards and the ball flew low and hard into the net.

Kai Johansen had thus elevated himself to cult hero status. He had also made history as he was the first Scandinavian player to win a Scottish Cup winners medal and the first foreign player to find the net in the Scottish Cup Final.

Rangers had just beaten Motherwell 2-0 at Ibrox to win the Premier League Title. 29th April 1978.

The last match at Ibrox before the redevelopment of the Stadium. This was to remove the terraces and replace them with the current Stands.

Derek Johnstone slides in to score Rangers third in the 3-1 Scottish Cup Final against Hearts . 1st May 1986.

He had scored to put Rangers ahead with a great header in the 42nd second@!

This completed the treble for Rangers. A packed Hampden looks on in the rain.

Another closer view of his second goal.

John Greig lifted aloft by manager Jock Wallace.
