April 11, 20251 yr DJ, Bomber Jackson and Sandy Jardine were at the very core of Rangers 1970s success.Colin Jackson was a very good central defender. He had pace, could read the game extremely well and was a brilliant header of the ball. He scored some vital goals, including the late winner in the March 1979 League Cup Final v Aberdeen.

April 14, 20251 yr Match Report on Rangers 4-0 Celtic. Scottish Cup Final. 14th April 1928.One of the most famous games in Rangers history.118,115 officially were in attendance. My grandfather certainly was in attendance and as a child, I grew up regularly hearing tales of this famous game.John Thomson watches as Rangers scoreRangers, despite being undoubtedly Scotlands best side, had gone 25 years without lifting what was still regarded at that time as the biggest prize in Scottish football. So long in fact, it was christened the ‘Rangers hoodoo’. But it was broken in spectacular fashion as Bill Struth's team ran rampant over their Old Firm rivals. Edited April 14, 20251 yr by erskblue

April 14, 20251 yr The 1928 Scottish Cup final took place at Hampden on April 14th in front of a record 118,000 crowd. There were an estimated 10,000 locked out as Rangers and Celtic met in the final for the first time since the infamous riot in 1909.Rangers were on the verge of yet another league title as they dominated the Scottish game under manager William Struth, but incredibly the Ibrox giants hadn't won Scotland's national cup competition since 1903, a gap of 25 long years.Talk of a cup hoodoo had sprung up, and was the talk of the football world every year when Rangers were in Scottish Cup action. They had suffered multiple shock results and disappointments, and in 1928 they would be without injured skipper Tommy Muirhead.Celtic were the better team in the first half with the wind at their backs, and Rangers had goalkeeper Tom Hamilton to thank for keeping the game goalless at the interval, especially due to a wonder save from Celtic forward Connolly. In the second half, Rangers thought they had opened the scoring when a Jimmy Fleming shot beat keeper Thomson, but defender McStay punched it clear on the line, many in the ground thinking the ball had actually gone into the goal. A penalty was awarded.Captain Davie Meiklejohn took responsibility and the Rangers fans held their breath. 25 years of pain could finally be at an end if he scored. Meiklejohn spoke of "dying 1000 deaths" when standing waiting to take the kick. He withstood the pressure and scored.A quarter of a century burden lifted from Rangers shoulders. Bob McPhail added a second when turning home a corner kick, before winger Sandy Archibald crashed home two long range thunderbolts to complete a memorable 4-0 win.The hoodoo was over, many great Rangers players had finally won their first Scottish Cup medal, and the club under Struth would go on to lift the old trophy 9 more times in his unrivalled managerial career.A truly iconic Rangers occasion.www.followfollow.com
April 15, 20251 yr Colin Jackson slides in to make a tackle during the Scottish Cup Final of 1979 against Hibs. Gordon Smith looks on.This first game on 12th May and the replay were, truely, both awful games of football! In the first game all I remember are Alex McDonald and Derek Parlane having decent chances for Rangers and Colin Campbell should really have won it very late on for Hibs! The photos below are from the original game. I actually don’t remember anything about the first replay, which also ended 0-0!The second replay on 28th May was a 3-2 win for Rangers. Arthur Duncan scoring the winner with a diving header . However it was an Own Goal! Edited April 15, 20251 yr by erskblue

April 16, 20251 yr Author If any player epitomises what it means to play for Rangers it is John Greig. An equivalent at Chelsea would be, for example, John Terry or Ron Harris.
