Front row, left to right: Sandy Jardine, Tommy McLean, Alex MacDonald and John Greig. I think it's Colin Jackson between Greig and Doddie. Not sure where Colin Stein was. This was Stewart Kennedy’s first team game since playing for Scotland at Wembley in May 1975. He was down as substitute goalkeeper. However, Colin Stein broke one of Peter McCloys fingers accidentally with a shot in the warm up. Kennedy then played at very short notice. Rangers went down 2-0. Kennedy never recovered his confidence, after being blamed for the May 1975 Wembley defeat to England. He had had a brilliant 1974-75 season for Rangers. Kennedy then won a League Cup Winners medal on the Saturday against Celtic !

Kennedy was beaten by a couple of long range shots and probably should have done a lot better. Wouldn't have helped with his confidence.

There would only have been one winner, when ‘Tiny’ Wharton was referring a game!😀 There is a great story about ‘Tiny’ Wharton sending off a player for ‘Foul and abusive language!’ The player pleaded that ‘Tiny’ had misunderstood his language. This being due to the player having left his false teeth in the dressing room before the match. ‘Tiny’ simply, but firmly told the pleading player. ”Now you and your false teeth will be reunited in the dressing room! Off !!”😀 And another game Tiny was referee.John Greig had fouled Joe Harper and been booked for the tackle. Greig growled angrily to Harper, that Harper was ‘a cheating wee bas**rd and he would f**ken would break his leg if he tried to cheat again.’ Allegedly. Harper pathetically whined to ‘Tiny Wharton. “Ref,ref, ref, did you hear what he just said?” ’Tiny looked at Harper and replied. “I believe Mr Greig was talking to you Mr Harper, not to me!”😀 Edited February 14, 20251 yr by erskblue
