Late 1920s. The redevelopment of the Stadium underway in this picture.

That’s the club administration and changing room block for the new (current main stand) in place.

The old main pavilion has been demolished and the Copland Road Terracing extended.

Early 1920s. I think. This picture shows how Ibrox was already ‘hemmed in’ on all four sides.

This had massive issues with the proposed expansion of the ground to increase its capacity in the 1930s

Boyne: Cheers for posting. Very interesting article.

Ibrox was (and still is) ‘hemmed in’ on all its four sides.

@erskblue Thank you. There has been a lot of talk over the last few years about enlarging Ibrox and as you say it is hemmed in all four sides. A similar problem to that faced if the Bridge was to be enlarged. I guess additional tiers could be added to the Copland Road and Broomloan Road Stands but deeper footings would probably have to be dug and there could be an impact on the Museum and Shop. I have read comments on the drainage under Ibrox and that could hamper re-development if the decision was taken to dig down so the top of the lower tier would be level with the streets. I think the lower tier of the Camp Nou is below street level.

That's the problem with stadiums that have been in situ for ages and over the years houses etc have been built around them. I think that it one of the reasons Arsenal moved from Highbury as it wasn't possibly to enlarge it due to all the housing and the underground station.

The old Stamford Bridge and Ibrox still hold the records for league attendances in England and Scotland. Long may those records stand.

6d for a programme. Very different from nowadays. I think a programme at the Bridge for the men's games is £4. Not sure as it's a while since I've bought one. Programmes for the women's games are £2 each.

The Main Stand of Ibrox in 1945 when Rangers played Moscow Dynamo.

The official crowd is given as 95,000. However, there does not seem a single space on the terracing or Main Stand!

I wonder just how many people were inside Ibrox that day? 130,000 perhaps!

As you say, the crowd was probably a lot more than 95,000. When Chelsea played Moscow Dynamo in the same month the attendance was given as 75,000 when it was actually believed to have been 100,000. I think that stadium officials, police etc were less fussy about attendances back in the day. Suspect a lot got in without paying.

Rangers had to borrow kit from Queens Park due to a clash of colours. I wonder how many supporters bunked off work, school etc. Suspect my grand-father was there with his mates and brothers. I wonder what excuse he gave to my Gran!

My Grandfather and at least two of my uncles were there .

My Grandfather asked his boss for a day off. “To attend an important family gathering!” The reason given.

His boss replied. “I might see you there then. I’m also attending this important family gathering.”😀

Harold Davis who played for Rangers, served with the Black Watch in the Korean War and in later years was the Patron of the Rangers Supporters Erskine Appeal. He was badly injured in the Korean War but recovered to play for Rangers.

Johan Cruyff and a young Ruud Gullit both played and both scored for Feyenoord that night.

Feyenoord won 7-6 on penalties! Freezing cold from memory and it was simply amazing to see Cruyff playing and for Feyenoord !

After the match Jock Wallace gave Cruyff a decanter.
